This post is another plea for aid in selecting material for an audition. The play is Les Mis, the role: Enjolras. I feel confidant my abilities are up to scratch, I just need to pick the right song. The audition form said they're looking for emphasis on the character's aggression and edge, and I'm having a hard time finding a good song to use both of those.
A friend recommended Anthem from Chess, which I'm not terribly familiar with. All I know is I need an aggresive, lyrical, heroic song... any help here would be hot,
Thank you all, you're grand,
-Gil
This may be a little too similar to Enjolras, but "Until Tomorrow" from "A Tale of Two Cities," performed as a solo, might be very nice.
"Mob Song" from Beauty and the Beast might also be good, although Gaston is technically more of a villain.
Maybe "Johanna" from Sweeney Todd (Antony's version)? It's a very flowing sort of ballad song, but toward the end, it definitely has a very determined, aggressive sound to it.
This is more of a bass song than baritone, but how about "C'est Moi" from Camelot? That could be great.

I do think the suggestion of Anthem is a worthwhile one, and it's always a good song to have ready for any future auditions.
And not a lot of people use it because Chess is kinda random. It's also beautiful, one of my favorites :)
Thank you all so much! I guess I need to listen to Anthem before I nix it, haha. Schmerg, many thanks for your recommendations, I wouldn't have thought of Johanna, but you make a good point!
I have another question for you... I feel silly for not knowing, but how do pronounce his name? Enjolras, that is. Is the S pronounced, or not?
It's kind of like AHN-zhol-rass. The emphasis is on the first syllable and the other two syllables are said quickly, so you don't really dwell on the 's'. If you listen to the Complete Symphonic Recording of Les Miserables (hint-- the entire CD is uploaded on a site that rhymes with Boo Goob), at the beginning of the song "Red and Black," you can hear the name shouted right before "At Notre Dame, the sections are prepared!"
Don't feel silly for not knowing how to say the name-- I was an avid part of the Les Miserables fandom (book AND musical) before I learned I'd been mispronouncing it as En-JOEL-riss all along. French is CRAAAAZY.
I really hope you get the part! Les Mis is a fantastic musical, and Enjolras is a great role.
What would you guys think of Finishing the Hat (SINTPWG)? Or Make Them Hear You (Ragtime)? Just another couple ideas I'm throwing out there...

MTHY would be a GREAT choice!
Hey guys, just thought I'd update you. I did not get the role of Enjolras, but I did get asked to be a member of the ensemble. I don't get paid, but I do get college credit.
Thank you all for your help!
PS: I used MTHY. ;D
