Hi, our school will be putting on a production of Man of La Mancha and I was wondering voice range wise, if I will have a shot for the role of Aldonza.
I'm a mezzo-soprano but with a deep alto sort of voice. I've played roles like Rose from Gypsy and I sing a lot of songs like All That Jazz.
Are there any other female roles that are appropriate for my voice?

Aldonza has to hit an A above the staff, and is thus usually cast as a soprano. However, in the movie, Sophia Loren sang all of the songs (I believe) either down the octave or in a much lower key.
Aldonza is really more of a soprano role. Especially if you are a deep alto it probably is not a good role. But, try it out. Work on vocal exercises to stretch your range.
Best of luck!
