**MATH HELP**#0

I am studying for my final exams and I have a couple of questions in the math dept. They are easy, I know...I just want to make sure I have the right answers. PLEASE HELP...YOU KNOW HOW STRESSFUL EXAMS CAN BE.
^=exponent
(5b)^4(6c)^2
(12x-1)(x+3)
(2h-6)^3

I don't remember how to do #1, that was too long ago for me. But here's what I got for the next two (without a calculator, so I might be off):
2. 12x^2 + 35x - 3
3. 8 (h^3 - 9h^2 + 27h - 27)
re: **MATH HELP**#2
Posted: 1/16/05 at 7:47pmWhat type of math is this? I'm doing Algebra 1 now and that looks scary.
re: **MATH HELP**#3
Posted: 1/16/05 at 7:48pmThat's just slightly more advanced algebra. It's not even Calculus, really. And it's not that scary; don't worry.

I think you learn this in Algebra I.
I am taking Algebra II. This is chapter 5.
Thanks Elphie...I now remember how to do problems like the second one.
For the first problem, would 30b^4c^2 be correct?
re: **MATH HELP**#5
Posted: 1/16/05 at 8:02pmI really don't remember how to do the first problem. I got 5b^144c^2, which definitely seems wrong to me. So you might be correct, I have no idea.

Although I haven't taken Algebra in a couple of years, here's what I got.
1. (22500)(b^4)(c^2)
2. and 3. Same as Elphie.
Hope this helps.
re: **MATH HELP**#7
Posted: 1/16/05 at 11:06pmI am taking AP Calculus now, and I swear it is like learning Manderin (sp?) Chinese...I understand squat, and am worried because if I do lousy on this next test, I won't get a B in this class, plus I think I am going to fail my midterm. I HATE IT!!!
re: **MATH HELP**#8
Posted: 1/16/05 at 11:19pmMillie, I'm taking AP Calculus this year as well, which are you taking, AB or BC?
re: **MATH HELP**#9

I am not going to bother taking Calc. Especially with the teacher in my school. The smartest kids fail the class...why bother to be stressed out of my mind?
I am not sure how high in math I will go. I begin Algebra III in one week.
By the way, I gave up on math review tonight...will start back up tomorrow afternoon.

I would help you, but I'm what's known as a "three-fer" at my school...good at english, good at history, good at drama...i'm rubbish with math, but we learned this last week, and as far as I can figure...
(5b)^4(6c)^2
On this one, you have to distribute the 4 to both the 5 and the "b" so you get
5x5x5x5 which equals =
625+b^4(6c ^2)
so THAT"s 6x6x6x6 which equals 1296+c^2
then.. you times the two numbers together
(it's not 5b raised to the fourth power of 6c raised to the 2nd power, right? cuz otherwise you gt a totally different answer!)
and then add the exponents, so you get..
81000b4c2
(12x-1)(x+3)
this one is easier..( by the way, * = multiply)
this one you just distribute and solve so..
you take 12x * x and then 12x * +3
so that's
12x^2+36x
and then you take -1 * x and then -1 * +3 (which turns into a negative, btw)
so it works out to
12x^2 + 36x - x -3
then you add or subtract whatever you can and you get
12x^2+35X-3
then if you need to solve for "x"
you: set everything = to 0 so...
12x^2 +35x -3 = 0.
Then you add three to both sides
12x^2 + 35x = 3
....and that's as far as I can get before I get confused on this one...sorry!
(2h-6)^3
this one is like the same thing as the first on, only actually it's easier
you take
2x2x2 then hxhxh then -6 x -6 x -6 and you get
8h^3-216
then divide 8 into 216 and get
27h^3
Hope this helps..but like I said I'm rubbish with math

(12x-1)(x+3)
FOIL method
12x^2 + 36x - 1x -3
12x^2 + 35x - 3 <--final answer
But I'm like Catie, I'm pretty rubbish with math. I am good at english and history [and music too], the exact opposite of what you need. I think my answer above is right.
Hope it helps...

Posted: 1/17/05 at 10:42amI know how to do that! The exponent thing was confusing me.

CatieElphie, isn't it 6^2, so that would only by 6x6 which equals 36 and then you times it by 625 and get 22500 instead?
