Posted: 5/16/05 at 3:26amRun, don't walk, to see this movie. Jane Fonda at her scenery-chewing best. I haven't laughed that hard at a movie in a long time!

Posted: 5/16/05 at 7:58amI'm going on Wednesday. A triple bill of Ong Bak, Monster In Law and then the midnight screening of Episode III. Can't wait.

Posted: 5/16/05 at 8:30amI thought it was horrible. Just a really lousy film, with a very bad turn from Fonda. Just goes to show you how two people can see the same thing, differently

Posted: 5/16/05 at 8:35amWas it not even worthwhile to see Jennifer Lopez have her face smashed into the cake by Jane Fonda? It's the whole reason I'm going............

Saw it yesterday. THe whole thing doesn't really work -- but as for just some humorous fluff -- it was fine. Don't expect anything and you may be entertained.
...and Vartan is dreamy in it!

I read a review of it somewhere that said "Great idea. Put two women who have never made anyone laugh in a stupidly written big budget comedy together and let the fun not begin."
True? False?

Posted: 5/16/05 at 11:15amThat review may end up being funnier than the movie.

Posted: 5/16/05 at 11:59amWell I saw it on Saturday and th audience was really enjoying themselves. But it is definitely what I would call a "airplane" movie.
#10re: MONSTER-IN-LAW
Posted: 5/16/05 at 12:05pmIt looks like it could be fun...on a dumb and dumber kind of level
#11re: MONSTER-IN-LAW
Posted: 5/16/05 at 12:10pmThat reviewer got it right. Both Fonda and Jo Lo are void of humor. They're just not amusing people to me.
#12re: MONSTER-IN-LAW
Posted: 5/16/05 at 12:35pmOh I dunno. Have you ever seen Lopez dance? It makes me laugh until I cry every time.
#13re: MONSTER-IN-LAW
Posted: 5/16/05 at 12:58pmI can't watch a Lopez flick. That voice just goes right through me.
#14re: MONSTER-IN-LAW
Posted: 5/16/05 at 1:36pmBut her serious movies are some of the best comedies around! Enough and Gigli to name but two. Rath, you don't know what you're missing.
#15re: MONSTER-IN-LAW
Posted: 5/16/05 at 2:39pmthe reviews have been horrible.......(but I'm going anyway)
#16re: MONSTER-IN-LAW
Posted: 5/16/05 at 2:54pmPop, I just can't listen to her voice, even to enjoy her unintentionally comedic dramas.

I saw it last night with friends and we had such a good time. So did the rest of the audience. We laughed our @sses off!!!
#18re: MONSTER-IN-LAW
Posted: 5/17/05 at 7:03amRath, that's a shame. You're missing out.

Just bumping this because I saw it yesterday in the lead up to the midnight screening of Episode III and I really quite liked it. I laughed WITH it a lot more than I laughed AT it (though to be fair, some stuff that wasn't meant to be funny had me snarking into my popcorn). As hard as Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez fight it out for supremacy, the film belongs to Wanda Sykes. Until the last 10 minutes when Elaine Stritch comes in and steals the film out from under everyone.
