Has anyone actually seen one of these being performed, out of interest? I'm really curious about how well they work.

Actually, I've been in several.
I would say that they work pretty well. It's just like a regular show, but sometimes they use a CD.

Posted: 12/19/07 at 5:46pmI stage managed Aladdin Jr. this summer, and I thought it worked really well. We performed it as an all children's cast, so none of our performers were older than 13. The "cute" factor helped them a lot, but it wasn't a bad show by any means. Its just like a regular musical...only Jr. I also teched Seussical Jr. with an adult cast, and it was good too. Both performances used canned music though, which I hate. For the kids it worked well, because they could get used to performing it the same way every time. But I know all the adults in Seussical hated it.

Posted: 12/23/07 at 11:38amThey can be as limited or extravagant as you like. Our costumes for Aladdin Jr were all hand made and very intricate. And the set was incredible. We built a track for the carpet to run on during "A Whole New World" and we had tons of fog, so it looked like they were actually flying.
