I am not a big fan of the post-80's Madonna but I have to say . . . I freakin' LOVE this album. It took a couple of listens for me to really appreciate it but now I can't stop listening. The best songs on the cd are the Pharell/Neptunes produced tracks. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I've only had one listen, and I do think I'll end up loving it after a few. I guess with all the postive reviews etc, I was expecting to love almost every song from the start.

I understand. The first time I listened to it, I was like "I don't know." But then I happened to put it on again while I was surfing the net and I was like, "Hey, this is actually pretty good." Then the third time I listened to it . . . I'm hooked.

Most anything I hear, I have to hear more than once to really love because great music (or theatre or film, etc) often has layers in addition to needing to wipe away whatever kind of strange expectation one might have.

So, while certain Madonna songs are instantly hits for me, others become hits for me upon the second or third listen. Especially since she's been more experimental with her sound in the 90s and especially in the 00s.

But, many of the songs on this album were instant hits for me. She could have at least 5 club/radio hits from this one.

4 Minutes
Give it 2 Me---my fave
Heartbeat
The Beat Goes On
Dance 2night

and poss Miles Away, She's Not Me, and Devil Wouldn't Recognize You. Maybe even Voices.

I loved Confessions, but this is better. And could be fun to see in concert what she does with them.

Heartbeat - I haven't danced around my apartment with abandon like this since, I don't know, Ray of Light?

Other standouts for me:

She's Not Me: particularly towards the end with the repeat of "never will be."

Miles Away: pretty song.

The Beat Goes On: fun, Studio 54-y track. (Totally different from the previously leaked, and horrendous version.)

I was concerned about this album after hearing 4 Minutes, but I cannot stop listening to it.

Anyone trying to go to the Roseland gig tomorrow night. I heard people were lining up last night for a chance to get in. Hey...it is free, and if you got the time, and the ability to wait out in the rain for 48 hours, go ahead. I think I'll stick to the MSN broadcast online. (although I would LOVE to be there in person)

Wow. Madonna, Robyn, and Portishead all releasing in the same week? Nice!!
