A much needed look into a dark chapter of our past.
"On Tuesday, the organization he founded and runs, the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Ala., released a report on the history of lynchings in the United States, the result of five years of research and 160 visits to sites around the South. The authors of the report compiled an inventory of 3,959 victims of “racial terror lynchings” in 12 Southern states from 1877 to 1950."

Could we all look at the amount of orange on the Florida map and then stop telling my friends and me that we "didn't grow up in the 'real' South"?
Okay, our neighbors weren't quite as bloodthirsty as the folks in Louisiana, but that's hardly anything to brag about.

"In what universe was 1950 centuries ago…"
In 2008 while campaigning for president, Mitt Romney claimed his support for the gay community during his campaign against Teddy Kennedy for the Senate in 1994 was "ancient history." So I would say the 1950s are prehistoric.
And Gav, must of us aren't telling you and your friends anything at all.

Posted: 2/12/15 at 9:07pmIt was just an expression, Namo. I wasn't actually referring to any poster at this board. But you might be surprised to learn how many people insist the entire State of Florida was South Beach, even in the 1950s.
