Ok, I'm doing a report on Marie-Antoinette and I have one question: did she really say "Let Them Eat Cake"?
I doubt it.
Maybe I'll watch my video of the Norma Shearer movie when I get some free time. The costumes are amazing and her acting cracks me up!
She really said Let them eat Entemans or Dunkin Donuts
In answer to your question, I believe she said it as a flippant remark to the starving peasants who than repaid her by chopping her head off. Lets hear it for the peasants. Peasants 1 Marie A 0
All official biographies maintain that she never said it.
My psycho 11th grade history teacher made it quite clear to us that she did NOT say that. (Although it would not have been uncharacteristic.)
I can't believe Sophia Coppola is doing a movie on Marie Antoinette, and she cast Kirsten Dunst as the leading lady. Oy! Just about anyone else would work better in my opinion.
I saw the urn that is said to contain Maria Theresa's - (Archduchess of Austria and mum of Marie Antoinette) innards at Saint Stephan's Cathedral in Vienna.
I've also seen the Tea Service by Sevres that Marie-Antoinette gave to Paul (son of Catherine the Great) and his wife Maria Feodorovna at Pavlovsk Palace just outside Saint Petersburg.
Thanks for all your input. I came to the conclusion that she didn't.
boy, are you on the wrong site for this question.

I say Marie-Antionette said, "Let them snort crack."
I mean, they don't want to put THAT in books, right?
Or the guy that wrote it down got it wrong.
