re: Marilyn McCoo, 5th Dimension, Up Up and Away...

Last night I didn't get to sleep at all, no, no
I lay awake and watched until the mornin' light
Washed away the darkness of the lonely night (lonely night)

Oh, and last night I got to thinkin' maybe I, I, I
Should call you up and just forget my foolish pride
I heard your number ringin', I went cold inside
And last night I didn't get to sleep at all

BRIDGE
I know it's not my fault, I did my best
God knows this heart of mine could use a rest
But more and more I find the dreams I left behind
Are somehow too real to replace (to replace)

Oh, last night I didn't get to sleep at all, no, no
The sleepin' pill I took was just a waste of time
I couldn't close my eyes 'cause you were on my mind
And last night I didn't get to sleep, didn't get to sleep
No, I didn't get to sleep at all at all

But more and more I find the dreams I left behind
Are somehow too real to replace (to replace)

Oh-uh-oh last night I didn't get to sleep at all no, no
The sleepin' pill I took was just a waste of time
I couldn't close my eyes 'cause you were on my mind
And last night I didn't get to sleep, didn't get to sleep
No, I didn't get to sleep at all at all

No, no, no
No, no, no

Last night I didn't get to sleep at all, no, no
Last night I didn't get to sleep at all

Fan here too! Up, Up and Away is still a great favourite. I have some video of the group from the Sullivan Show.

Some of it is great, but there is some that is a little embarassing. The big guy in the group could not dance to save himself no matter how simplistic the moves they gave him. Still there was the music...

i love Marilyn...
Especially the song 'One Less Bell to Answer"
"Bill" is next on my fave 5th Dimension list.
I think Marilyn has/had an amazing voice.
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Beautiful and a great voice. Love her voice in the song "If I could reach you". Didn't she host "Solid Gold" for a while?

Yes she did host for awhile and I think she co-hosted with Rex Smith for abit.

Does anyone here know that she actually played the role of "Effie Melody White" (in a fat suit nonetheless) in a regional production of "Dreamgirls". LMAO.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the actual title
"Wedding Bell Blues (Bill)"???

I sing for myself. I sing when I want, whenever I want to, just for me. I sing for my own pleasure. Do you understand that?

re: Marilyn McCoo, 5th Dimension, Up Up and Away...

My two best 5th Dimension-related memories are:

1) Their guest appearance on the Robert Wagner series "It Takes a Thief" in the '70s. I don't believe the group played The 5th Dimension, but the plot was that Marilyn vanished and it was all a big ruse to sell more records like the "Paul is dead" rumors during the Beatles hey day.

2) The Saturday Night Live Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids VH-1 Behind The Music Special. Fat Albert (Tracy Morgan) as an adult:

"After my fifth heart attack, it was a real wake-up call. And now I am married to the lovely Miss Marilyn McCoo.

No doubt about it, one of the finest musical acts of all-time, and one of my favorites. Their 2 disc greatest hits is a must!

"Blowin' Away" and "The Girls' Song" are two of my favorites; but I really like every single one. The 2 disc set is amongst my top 10 favorite CDs.

YES! "The Girls' Song"!
Oh tell me why
I was so unkind
I hope he picks up that line
I'll make it up to him
If he didn't change his number
If he didn't change his mind
