Does anyone here know anything about Marymount Manhattan College? I wanna go there for Musical Theatre! I've heard good things but I was just looking for some advice on how to get in and some people's experiences going there lol!
I'm also applying to CMU, NYU Tisch,UCF and USF(safety school.. not a top choice lol).. if anyone has any advice on those too, that would be nice lol!

Don't apply yet!!!! I don't think they're too keen on admitting applicants who can't spell the name of their school...
chances are AndyF is posting above or below me...

Posted: 1/13/06 at 12:30amI'm currently a theatre major at Marymount Manhattan and I strongly dislike it. Not only is the program below my expectations, but the entire school in general is just...not good. I am transferring next year and I'm telling anyone who will listen that MMC is not that good of a school. It's definitely not worth what they will charge you. Some of the professors are great, but the school is, in my opinion, on the same level as community college.

Some of you who are students there should go post your thoughts on CC because there are several there who are looking to hear current students' opinions:

Posted: 1/13/06 at 5:47pmI go to mmc and I happen to love it. You should go to the school to visit-ask those there and see for yourself. Its not for everyone, it happens to be what I want. The musical theatre dp is small- but its growing. Its only offered as a minor but you are basically paying for the minor but you are getting a major. Which is rare in new york city.

Posted: 1/14/06 at 2:46pmOne bad thing about it, if you major in dance, you can't double major in nothing else. That's why somone I know who went to MMC last year, came back to boring South Carolina, but hey, i'm glad she's back, but she said, the whole school wasn't really that impressive.

Posted: 1/26/06 at 11:56pmYou are put into one of two or three audition groups, and you all go into a room, and do your auditions in front of everyone. But the proctors make it seem very comfortable and very few people were noticeably nervous when it was their turn. Not sure about the musical theatre minor, thoug. I'm pretty sure you audition individually in the morning, and then the monologue part of the audition is later that day.

I auditioned two years ago. I'm not sure if its still the same, but from what I hear it still is- set up in a typical MMC class setting. The dance call, from what I remember- you pick which level you believe you are in and then you learn some very simple combinations. Nothing to get worked up about. The monologue section is, as I said- a class setting- you perform your piece for one or two of the faculty, as well as a current upperclass student and your fellow auditioners. They WILL cut you off at a minute- but it doesnt matter, and they may or may not ask you to do it again to see how you can take direction. In the vocal audition- I believe, you need to have an uptempo and a ballad, also a class setting, you may sing one or you may have to sing both. If anyone has anymore questions about MMC, just PM me.
Hope that all helps!!

My nephew was just accepted. He's over the moon. It was his first choice.
He's not planning to study Theatre, though.
