Some pluses MMC has that other colleges don't:

Close to Broadway, easy Broadway internships available, guest speakers from professional theatre, professors who work for Broadway themselves that know the business, able to audition for professional theatre while still in college, and a program that offers a variety of skills.

I can't speak for anything else, other than the one major minus I already mentioned: the competition. The hundreds of other students in the program. All assumingly have the same desires and goals that you do - with the same opporturnity that you do.

You're not unique. It's: who is better? Me, or my hundreds of classmates?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

It is true that it is difficult to be cast in the mainstage shows - very stiff competition. Then again, MMC doesn't do shows with big casts AT ALL. But there are TONS and TONS of other performance opportunities for performance at the school. And in all honesty, if a student is training to be a professional performer and you don't make a college production, what makes anyone think that the same student will make it in the professional world? If you're amazing, you'll make the school show. If you're not, you'll slip through the cracks.

Also, I have friends that go to other schools with "strong" theatre programs, and they do larger and more shows with a smaller student body. However, I have seen many, many, many, MANY college productions. Usually, the school that admits more students into their productions are typically of a lesser standard. Not always, but often in the productions I've encountered. Does that make any sense?

Munk - it makes sense. Depends on the program, the professors, the students, and location of the school.

Having friends in several different types of programs, this is what I find, at least for myself and imagining myself in other programs:

Being in a small school with a good program allowed me to be on stage more. Yes, we have other performance opportunities too, but in addition I am in mainstage shows. Chorus roles, supporting roles, and leading roles. In addition, other production roles that aren't acting. My resume is quite impressive, and through SETC, I have had many surprised faces from professional theatre companies. "You did all this AND you're a FRESHMAN??"

The resume is jam-packed. So what? How does this apply to your training and career?

Its allowed me to get the mainstage experience I need. I learn from each one and grow quicker than other students in other programs, I have found. As a Junior, I will be doing Graduate level work.

I don't think my school's program is better than Marymount Manhattan College, but I do think my training is as good, or better. The bonus is all the experience I will already have.

Didn't INTO THE WOODS just open there(at MMC)?
I would love a review of that.
PM or whatever. I don't go there, but wish I could see it.

Yes, I saw it last night. I wrote a BRIEF review in the "most recent show you saw" thread on the main board.
