Mattresses...the scourge of society?

The item on mattresses on tonight's CBS news troubled me greatly. Am I to gather that these menaces are to kill us whilst we sleep? Pictured was a mattress that appeared to suddenly burst into flames...I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight. Why wasn't I forewarned of their spontaneous combustability? And how can we protect ourselves from this foe to humankind? Seriously...why are they dangerous?
