Don't watch CSI while eating dinner . . .
BLEECCHHH - the oozing contents in the trunk of the car looked suspiciously similar to that on my plate.

Then it was all drippy droppy at the bottom. Digusting...
I was sort of disappointed with the premiere. :[ I've seen better.
I was a bit disappointed too. But, after last year's season's finale, well, it would be really hard to top that.
The goo was pretty gross, especially when I was about to take a bite of my dinner and it went into Greg's mouth . . .
Or, really, within an hour of going to sleep.
I guess they spend so much money making the bodies and body parts, they give them the maximum film time possible.
Blechh....
And who do you think has more hours per episode in the hair-stylist's chair--Marg Helbenberger or Eric Szmanda?
God, I love his rat's-nest-with-blond-tips...
He is cute in a Dustin Hoffman/The Graduate sort of way.
But again, what a disgusting stew of human remains that was.
Thank GOD! There are other CSI fans here! We must discuss-
1. Favorite actor and character.
2. Favorite storylines/episodes.
3. Favorite/least favorite series (LV, Miami, NY)
4. In the likely event that everyone dislikes Miami
, post one thing you hate about David Caruso on the show.
(And I think Eric S is a cutie-patootie!)
Well--I'm a newcomer to the CSI franchise--I'm currently TiVo-ing CSI Original Flavor (Las Vegas) which is syndicated on SpikeTV and so watching 2 or 3/day (Thus the pre-bedtime viewing).
I like that we don't get too much in the way of off-topic story lines for the characters. We know about Catherine's daughter and the struggles of being a single mom, and we know about Warrick's gambling, but not too much--no "very special" episodes about the characters. As a result of that, though, I can't say I have a particular favorite--they all fill their niches perfecly though. I love watching George Eads' perfect Abercrombie face, I love Gary Dourdan's eyes (those eyes!), Eric S. is adorable and sexy.
Marg Helgenberger is a long time favorite of mine. I have never cried as hard watching TV (sobbing) as when she handed her baby to the marine from the roof of the American Embassy on "China Beach", and she has had a place in my heart ever since.
I guess the one who has really crept up on me is Paul Guilfoyle. I think he does terriffic work.
Favorite episode? I liked the one about the dwarfs. I liked the Sherlock Holmes episode. The one with the two crazy model sisters. They tend to follow the formula so closely that it's difficult for me to be too enthusiastic about any one episode (much like the ensemble acting, in fact).
But taken as a whole, I think it's great T.V.
I prefer the original to Miami - David Caruso gives me the creeps - and sometimes I just want so smack the smirk off of his character.
NY is growing on me. At first, way too much dialogue about the whole scientific process - this slide is examining the third layer of the epidermal . . . it has gotten away from that.
I don't know if I have a favorite episode. I think the Sherlock Holmes one was pretty funny and amusing though.
I'm the opposite of you, bta! I'm a long-time CSI fan, and only a new China Beach fan - I try to catch the re-runs when I can!
I think CSI and L&O's strength is that it doesn't focus much on the characters. I was glad they eventually put the kibbosh on the Gil/Sara romance and Gil's blindness scare. I also think Paul Guilfoyle is great...George Eads didn't do much for me (aside from the looks department) until the season finale, where I think he really stood out. That was a great storyline - I also really liked the one with the serial killer who murdered everyone in the bathtubs and made them tape-record a suicide message (the name escapes me)...
I'm going to give NY another chance this year, but it didn't wow me last season for the same reason you gave, YWIW. Too much dialogue, and I don't think the characters have as much chemistry as the LV cast does. Too bad, because I really like Gary Sinise's work.
How much do I hate David Caruso...let me count the ways...well, for one - sunglasses are not an acting prop, so stop whipping them off to symbolize that you're emoting!!!
I know I'm supposed to hate David Caruso and wallow in the Schadenfreude of his post-NYPD blue career implosion, but I really don't. I still find him sexy. Sexier, frankly, with some miles on his face. I'm a sucker for red-heads.
The right red-heads.
Bleeechh.
David Caruso . . .
and for good measure . . .
Bleecch.
But, to each his or her own. A lot of folks do like him.
Eric Stoltz = the right red-head
Cynthia Nixon = the right red-head
David Caruso = please, let me change the channel
To each his own! I find that while none of the series are spot-on in the forensic department, Miami is the worst. For example, afer Speedle's death, the coroner is caressing him and crying over his body, getting really close so her hair is touching him. That's three ways that case could've been thrown out! One wayward tear drop and it's all over! And the clothing! Who wears plunging necklines to observe bodies?
/end rant
Jeez, Tiff, it didn't occur to me that people could just be getting acquainted with China Beach now--I apologize if I spoiled the big moment...
I really enjoy Emily Proctor and Khandi Alexander as well, but I haven't yet been motivated to watch another version of the same show.
And yeah, the duct-tape suicide thing was good. Was that the guy who made synthetic hands and outsmarted Grissom? Good episode.
Yay other CSIheads. Dreamcatcher only recently got me into the series. I love it. And Tiff I agree Eric is the cutest!
Eric Stoltz--so right.
Cynthia Nixon--right color, right texture, but she could use some conditioner now and then.
I know I'm alone in the wilderness about David Caruso, and I do get how mannered his acting is, but I still vote thumbs up.
No problem, bta! I haven't been following the storyline too closely, mostly watching just to revel in how fantastic Marg is! (Did you see last season when her husband guest-starred on CSI?)
Emily Proctor isn't too bad aside from the fact that her work attire would better suit a Hooters waitress, but that's not her fault. Did you know one of her lesser known movies was this stinker called "Breast Men" with David Schwimmer? Don't ask how I know this.
Yeah, the duct-tape synthetic hand guy. Millander! That's the name! There was also that other guy Gil pursued for a while - do you remember that ep? He was finally caught and interrogated, and wound up killing himself at the police station bathroom so he would get the better of Gil too?
Ohh - the plastic bag to get the last laugh. That was good.
I also like the supporting cast on Miami - Emily Proctor looks a little crazy in the cabasa sometimes, but hell, she plays with guns, and Kandi Alexander talks to dead bodies, and they have their own little Greg clone now as well. Just cannot stand DC.
I also loved China Beach. Dana Delany and Marg H, along with Ricki Lake, were just great on that show, as were all of dem mens. Some of dem mens were very, very pretty as well.

Thank! You! He IS a Greg clone, isn't he? Other people I've talked to don't see the resemblance!
I haven't seen the episode with the bathroom suicide. Any idea what season it was?
Alan Rosenberg was on CSI? As a one-shot guest, or recurring?
I believe the plastic bag was last season - unless it was a repeat that I caught last year.
As was the guest appearance by Alan Rosenberg. He played quite the jerk on the show.
And the Greg clone on Miami - while he is not quite as befuddled as Greg's character, being a cop first, I think there is a strong physical resemblence. Just take out some of the highlights in Greg's hair and they could be brothers - at least that is what I thought.

I believe it was two seasons ago...lemme double check on TWOP. (Do you read the TWOP recaps? They stopped doing them for CSI this season, but I find them hysterical after viewing the episode they're recapping.)
Yup, Alan Rosenberg wason CSI last season as a one-shot guest - ***spoilers***
he played a murderer who gets his mack on with Catherine at a bar and gets a bit too frisky for her liking, so she loses him and finds out later that a woman at the same bar was killed shortly afterwards.
Oops, you're right, YWIW - it was last season, sixth episode. It seemed so long ago! Actually last season was pretty strong, eh? I thought the season before kind of faltered, but season 5 had a bunch of interesting and provocative storylines!
Off to bed for me.
Now with thoughts of CSI gore running through my mind.
So long as it is not images of David Caruso, I will be fine.
Good night.
