Michael Buble Swings in Atlanta

Hello, BWWers! I want to report that the Michael Buble concert last night at Atlanta's Symphony Hall was a swingin' success! Michael played 10 songs off his newest CD "It's Time" including: "Feeling Good" (his opener), "You Don't Know Me", "The More I See You", "Try a Little Tenderness", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "You and I" and his #1 single "Home". Michael had a terrific 12 piece band (2 trombone players, 3 trumpet players, 3 saxophone players, a bass player, a guitar player, a percussionist, and a pianist) supporting his jazzy vocals. Michael had a great time bantering with the audience and seemed very at ease during the show. The audience appreciated the upbeat nature of most of the show's music, enjoyed the pretty ballads offered and danced in the aisles during his last two songs of the regular set -"Save the Last Dance For Me" and "How Sweet it Is". During the middle of the show, Michael joked that he didn't want to sing Jazz/Swing/Standards anymore - but he'd rather do opera. Then he gave us a tongue-in-cheek take on his version of a Josh Groban song. Next, he changed his mind, and decided that he wanted to be a pop star and sang a terrific version of Maroon 5's "This Love". Then, a bit sheepishly (because of recent - ahem- events), Michael offered a spot-on impression of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean". Thankfully, Michael B. then returned to the regularly scheduled concert for the sold-out crowd. Michael offered up 7 songs from his debut CD throughout the high energy show including: "Sway", "Fever", "Moondance", "Come Fly With Me", "That's All", and "For Once in My Life". Michael also sang an upbeat take on the classic "Smile". After closing the regular set, Michael returned to the stage to sing two encores - "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" from his debut CD and "Song For You" - the last part of which he sang to the audience without a microphone. If you enjoy a fresh take on jazz and swing standards of the Sinatra era, I'd suggest you get a ticket to see Michael Buble when he gives a concert in your town!

Thanks for the review Jungle.....I loved him at Town Hall and was upset when I found out I missed him this year. When I saw him he did "Rainbow Connection" and I was hoping he would put it on this CD, but I guess he decided not too..oh well...he did a wonderful rendition of it.

The show was fantastic! I think Michael will be around for a long, long time.

Boobs - I saw Michael on his first tour, also. During that show, he sang three songs which he said would be on his new CD -"Rainbow Connection" (as you noted), "Beyond the Sea" - the Bobby Darin classic, and "This Guy's in Love With You - the Bacharach/David standard made famous by Herb Alpert. Sadly, none of those three songs made it onto Michael's new CD for some reason.

Sounds wonderful, Jungle!

I wish I could have been there, too.

And, tonight you have Carole! What a great week!

re: Michael Buble Swings in Atlanta

I missed his show when he was in Seattle about a month ago. My roomie is a HUGE fan and has seen him several times. We were commenting how sad that it seems he's outgrowing the larger theaters and most likely his next concerts will be at smaller arenas.

DayDreamer - You are right. We are seeing Michael at the beginning of his career. On his first go round in Atlanta, he played a small theater called The Rialto. This time, he stepped up to Symphony Hall. Next go round, he will probably play the 5000 seat+ Fox Theatre or Chastain Park Amphitheatre (if he visits in summertime). After that, I won't be surprised to see him at the much larger Gwinnett Arena or the enormous Philips Arena in a few years. Sigh.

re: Michael Buble Swings in Atlanta

That happens to be one of my favorite songs, so I was hesitant at first about a rendition other than Van Morrison's. But, I have to say, I love Michael's rendition. Alot!

I love his take on "Moondance", also. It got a huge ovation last night. Michael's version of "That's All" is a favorite of mine. I think that song is simply one of the most romantic songs of all time.

"Home"

Another summer day
Has come and gone away
In Paris and Rome
But I wanna go home
Mmmmmmmm

Maybe surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel all alone
I just wanna go home
Oh I miss you, you know

And I’ve been keeping all the letters that I wrote to you
Each one a line or two
“I’m fine baby, how are you?”
Well I would send them but I know that it’s just not enough
My words were cold and flat
And you deserve more than that

Another aeroplane
Another sunny place
I’m lucky I know
But I wanna go home
Mmmm, I’ve got to go home

Let me go home
I’m just too far from where you are
I wanna come home

And I feel just like I’m living someone else’s life
It’s like I just stepped outside
When everything was going right
And I know just why you could not
Come along with me
But this was not your dream
But you always believed in me

Another winter day has come
And gone away
And even Paris and Rome
And I wanna go home
Let me go home

And I’m surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel alone
Oh, let me go home
Oh, I miss you, you know

Let me go home
I’ve had my run
Baby, I’m done
I gotta go home
Let me go home
It will all be allright
I’ll be home tonight
I’m coming back home

He did a cover of the Spiderman theme, too, at one time... I can't remember where I heard it, but I loved it!

re: Michael Buble Swings in Atlanta

Well it's a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
You know the night's magic
Seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight
Seems to shine in your blush...

Can I just have one a' more moondance with you, my love?
Can I just make some more romance with a' you, my love?

Well I wanna make love to you tonight
I can't wait till the morning has come
And I know now the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you're never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true dear
There and then I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
And I know how much you want me that, you can't hide...

Can I just have one more moondance with you, my love?
Can I just make some more romance with you, my love?

Well it's a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
You know the night's magic
Seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight
Seems to shine in your blush...

One more moondance with you
In the moonlight
On a magic night
la, la, la, la, there's a moonlight
On a magic night
Can't I just have one more dance
With you my love?
