I would actually prefer that he do a film on homophobia, rather than gay rights. I believe his incredible sense of humor and creative cinematic expression could shine an informative light on two things: the irrational fear of gay people (homophobia) and the absolute hatred of gay male sexuality. (Lesbian sexuality is, alas for my poor Sapphic sisters, a turn-on for het guys).
I also assume that the planned movie for Sacha Baron Cohen's character Bruno will also put the everyday average homophobia out in the bright sunlight the way Borat exposed so many of the frayed threads that make up the frayed fabric of US citenzry.

In the immortal words of one of BWW's most ardent supporters of all things gay:
"If Michael Moore does to the gay community what he is doing now to health care, "you people" better run for the hills."

Posted: 7/14/07 at 12:56amYou people? oh, you mean 'the gays'. Listen, some of my best friends are gay. Really, I have no problem with those kinds of people.

Thanks for that, JustAGuy.
I hope Michael Moore does make a movie about homophobia... I think it could be pretty amazing.

If Michael Moore does to gay rights what he is doing to the health care issue, some people better run for the hills!
Like Huckabee says, it is not a health care crisis, it is a HEALTH crisis. (Said as he referred to Michael Moore)

Nice try HD, but your original quote is written in stone. Here it is in case you'd like to use it again.
"If Michael Moore does to the gay community what he is doing now to health care, "you people" better run for the hills."

That's what his "collective" does... they re-write history.
#14re: Michael Moore Takes On Gay Rights
Posted: 7/14/07 at 11:42amActually "Re-Writing History" was first used by Dick Morris as the title of his book detailing his relationship with Hillary Clinton.

"Actually "Re-Writing History" was first used by Dick Morris as the title of his book detailing his relationship with Hillary Clinton."
Interesting, but totally irrelevant.

If you have such a problem with "cutting and pasting" why don't you EVER criticize the radical liberals who dominate this board for their extensive, selective, and irresponsible use of questionable cut and pastes?
Moreover, their lengthy diatribes stand without editing.
BIAS MUCH?

When alerted or when we've (the moderating team) happens upon any of these threads - whether it's about theater, politics, or any other subject - DO edit lengthy cut and paste jobs.
You're attempts to cry foul are laughable as I explained to you on another thread.
And lest you be confused. My comment about your cut and paste jobs has nothing to do with the length. My problem with your cut and paste jobs (and I assume everyone else's problem) is that you have no original thoughts. You aren't contributing to the message board with opinion, you are merely using the message board to blog articles written by others.
That is what I mean by cut and paste jobs.

It is such a liberal miasma of bluster and venom to state that I express no opinions or contribute anything to the debate on this board.
That's a very sad statement for someone who supposed to be impartial and "in charge" of this board.

See. Again you miss the point. My opinion has nothing to do with being liberal. But you have to force a label on me and my ideas simply because I am "against" your train of thought. Do you see other posters putting the Republican or Right Wing label on you every thought you have? No. Because as a mature and free thinking adult, we can look at someone's ideas and know that not everything one writes is of political agenda. But perhaps you don't see that because everything you post, you do assert a political agenda. If so, that's what we call projection.
I could tell you yet another time that if I or the other moderators weretruly impartial, biased, and whatever words you want to throw around, don't you think you're account would have been suspended by now? Really....

Posted: 7/14/07 at 2:28pmI don't see what a film totally based on homophobia would accomplish. I think most people are aware of its ugliness. I'd rather see a film that busts the stereotypes and shows accomplished gay men and women in their everyday lives, their contributions to society and how we are alike and want the same things. The general public needs to see a more serious side of the gay male population rather than the ones portrayed on TV or on the internet.

"I think most people are aware of its ugliness."
Theoretically. But they haven't seen it in action. The way Borat showed people their own xenophobia.
I'm not necessarily sure a movie that shows "accomplished" gay men and lesbians would do anything but perpetuate the myth that gay people are all upper middle class people with a lot of income. That would reinforce the right's desire to paint gay people as such.
More interesting would be to see how homophobia impacts dishwashers, and homeless people and garbage women and postal delivery people. I'd be less interested in a primer on Those Successful Gays.
Oh yeah, quote of the year, Craig:
You aren't contributing to the message board with opinion, you are merely using the message board to blog articles written by others.

Most people also were aware that we have health care problems and gun control issues. But Moore's films help delve into how we got there and exposes specific things.
I don't think most people know that homophobia replaced the Cold War for those who needed to have something to scare Americans into votes and sending their money to evangelicals. I don't think most people understand the truth of what happened during the AIDS crisis. I don't think they understand the great hypocrisy of our ban on gays in the military--that there have been many gay heroes in our military since the American Revolution. That if it weren't for a gay man, we would still be Brits. I don't think people understand the anti-gay agenda at all.
I think it would also be nice for Moore to hold a mirror up to homophobia. Let people see just how ugly they are when they put this drag on.
