"And they weren't said by a volunteer usher - they were said by Michelle Obama's advance team."
It was said by "one of the coordinators' Which, if you've ever been involved in these events, you'd know is the equivalent to a volunteer usher. And if you want to base your vote for POTUS on the judgment of some fifth tier worker bee, be my guest.

I'm not going to argue, but had this been Clinton I'm pretty sure we'd be hearing a different tune.
Double standard.

Posted: 4/10/08 at 9:08amArt, I am an event planner and have volunteered for political campaigns. However, there are also paid staffers who plan and execute these events. My guess is that she is the later, but that's only a guess. If this was a photo for press release or for collatoral, staging the photo is the norm and "We need more white people" makes contextual sense. Look at any college or corporate recruiting piece -- rainbow of faces.

Yeah, I don't dispute that it happened in some way, SoMMS. I was questioning the wording of the quote. It sounded like it was phrased to make it sound more offensive than it probably was in reality. But I don't dispute that they arrange those shots with diversity in mind in every campaign. My point is more that it seems ridiculous, to me, to equate that, or how that was done, to the competency of the candidate.
As far as double standard goes, of course the press would call Clinton on it. And it would be her supporters' job to defend her, not mine. I would not attack her on something like this this. I could give you a long list of little things like this the press has picked on her about that I've not mentioned here at all. Yet every little speck of controversy about Obama gets its own thread here. So I'm not sure where the double standard is.
Should I start a thread about Hillary's commercial where she complains how she didn't have heat in her summer cottage?

To paraphrase the musical Margo Channing, "Welcome to presidential politics. My dear, you'll love it so!"
