Hello!
So, first off- this is my first post! Exciting! Now, last night, we found out that our fall musical is going to be Thoroughly Modern Millie, which I'm really excited about. I really want the part of Jimmy. Does anybody have any suggestions about what to do for monologues or songs? Thank you for any help!

What's your range? It's a smart choice to sing a song that shows of your range. Is this a high school production? If so, it's probably best to do a memorable song from a musical most people trying out don't really know. You don't want to sing the same song as somebody else, and singing a lesser-known song lowers the chances of that happening. A song in the style of the show's music usually helps the director see you in the show, especially if it expresses a strong emotion the character has. The Drowsy Chaperone has the same general style of music, so you might want to look at "Cold Feet", "Accident Waiting to Happen", and "Toledo Surprise". I hope this helps

Posted: 8/25/09 at 9:31pmGlad I can help! You can probably find books full of monologues for auditions at your library or bookstore. Many of these books have monologues specifically written for high school auditions. Of course, you don't want to do an overly-dramatic monologue about an addiction to drugs or something for Thoroughly Modern Millie. Of course, I don't have any monologue books that I can recommend, so you're kind of on your own unless somebody else here can help.
