The taxi driver (Hildy) of the original Broadway On the Town was Nancy Walker (Rhoda's mother on Rhoda and waitress in the old Bounty commericals). Betty Garrett played the role in the film. Betty Garrett was in a number of Broadway musicals including Something for the Boys, Jackpot, Call Me Mister, Bells are Ringing, Beg Borrow or Steal, Spoon River Anthology, Meet Me in St. Louis and the revival of Follies. Marion Ross only did two plays on Broadway - Edwin Booth and the 1986 revival of Arsenic and Old Lace (replacement).
I guess I should have looked it rather tah rely on memory of what I thought I knew...Oh well, I was close.
But, can Mindy tap dance?

Mindy can tap her ass off!
"Mindy can tap her ass off!"
She'd die of exhaustion before she could tap that ass off.
Tootie, on the other hand, with the help of a plastic surgeon did skate her boobs down a few cup sizes!
Had to bump it (with a trumpet) to remind everyone that LaMindy's show debuts tonight. Wouldn't she have made a great Tracy Turnblad a few decades ago?
Oh, yes! But can she sing?
Who cares if she can sing, she has "STAR QUALITY".
I saw Betty in the revival a few years ago Q.
Happy Days came first Laverne and Shirley was a spin off and Betty was on Happy Days a couple of times.

If you have any intrest in seeing this show see it soon. It won't be on for long. TERRIBLE. But it's not Mindy's fault. She still has "IT".
oooohhh dear, don't tell me the valtrex is not working for her?!?
i agree, sueleen... we couldn't get throught the first 10 minutes of the show... i hate canned laughter, especially when it's in response to something that isn't funny at all... Antonio Sabato couldn't act his way out of a paper bag, he just looks good...
just bad bad bad...
So you didn't see the jawdropping scene where, while in uniform, the staff goes to the ATM and an older couple asks them if they are a musical group "Like the Village People?", and without any reason, they lie and say "Yes, we are 'THE HELP'". They then all break into an improviesed rap song that has each one introducing them selves with really stupid dance steps to illustrate their particular occupation. Truly a scene to be seen.
no, missed that, and most of the show... we watched a rental instead...
It was pretty bad. There are so many characters, there is not focus. Add the poor writing and poor performances (with the exception of Tori and Mindy, of course), the show needs an about-face to hang in there. I'll keep watching just to see Mindy, though. She really should have her own show.
