The proposal started plenty of conversations (such as this one), so I'd say he succeeded.
But the concept itself is so cruel hearted it draws negative attention and puts people on the defensive. It's good to get people talking, but I don't think this is actually going to be enlightening to the people who need to sort out their health. Nor is it the correct angle for education.

You know what? I just remembered that they do have a sugar syrup that they use instead of sugar in the iced coffees. I guess it mixes better in the cold liquid. But they are not supposed to use it if the customer asks for Splenda.
If your dad ordered Splenda at the worker put in sugar syrup, then that was his mistake (the worker's, not your dad's). It was not corn syrup and McDonald's does not put sugar syrup in every coffee, no matter what.
