Well, the trip was 'eventful' from the get go. I should start maybe three days before my flight when he called me to tell me he got a really great part in a TV movie but that it meant he was going to have to leave and fly to Vancouver in the middle of my trip. I was crushed but happy for him at the same time.

Anyway, onto the trip! My flight was late taking off. I had medical issues when I landed. The shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel got into an accident, welcome to LA! By the time I made it into my room Matt called me but I wasnt ready yet and he didnt even know where my hotel was! So much for giving him all the info in advance, I see he used it...*rolls eyes* Anyway he finds me and we're both starving, we went to In and Out Burger. (living it up of course) We hung out for about two hours talking non-stop about anything and everything! He brought me back to the hotel after that because he was supposed to go to a Dodgers game with the owner of his agency. I was totally wiped so I spent the rest of the evening sleeping, tv and room service. We were going to go out again after the Dodgers game but the owner decided to take him to meet some producer people and **** up our plans. Of course, its his job to schmooze and mingle so I cant really complain, I told him to go do his job, no problem. I think he felt bad.

The next day I got up and went in the pool for a while. I love swimming! Matt called me and said he was coming over, bringing me room service from his favorite Mexican restaurant - another fast food place, El Polo Loco- and his computer so I could fix it for him. SO I had to get out of the pool and atleast put something decent on. I put on my pjs, left my door open and sat on my bed watching tv waiting for him to show up. He walked in when I had League of Extraordinary Gentlemen on and he knows Shane West so he was making fun of him. Then it was time for him to open his gift. I had made him a gift that was a cardboard coffin reading: RIP Link Larkin, His death was essential to the growth of your rising star. Inside it had a charm, some playbills, a card, business cards, a holder, candies, a painting I did of him, etc. He loved the coffin and put on the charm. He changed the channel to the olympics- beach volleyball, which I couldnt follow and he didnt want to explain. (men!) Lots more talking. It was nice to have a good chunk of alone time with him. He gave me a check too, to pay for my tickets to the show. Eventually, he leaves, I was sad cuz the next day he was flying off to Vancouver to film Mattress!

So I showered and changed. The theater was only about 8 blocks away so I 'wheeled' there, along Hollywood Blvd. I stopped to look at the Hollywood sign which I had never seen before. People thought I was crazy for walking alone through Hollywood but aside from being hit on a couple times, no one bothered me. It felt a lot like the village with its goth shops and tattoo places. The theater WAS beautiful.

The show...

I enjoyed Bruce Vilanch as Edna. Hes a comedian and not an actor so he definitely landed the jokes but struggled with the singing and dancing a little. He seemed to love the fart jokes. My main criticism for him though would be that he throws in a couple jokes about current politics that take away from the time period.

Todd Susman, as Wilbur, did a wonderful job- just as good as Dick Latessa.

I wasnt too thrilled with Jordan Ballard or Sandra Denise, Amber and Penny respectively. Perhaps I was just expecting too much having heard great things. Jordan's Amber just didnt seem to have the 'im the popular girl!' attitude, she seemed more dim than darling. I've grown to like her since shes gotten to Broadway and I've heard her speak about the role and the differences in her take on the character. Sandra's Penny took dim to an extreme making the character read as mildly retarded as opposed to just ditzy, which again was probably just a choice I wasnt prepared for.

Terron Brooks I had seen before and I do thoroughly enjoy his performance, he is an amazing singer although I agree with the idea of him looking a little too old for the part.

Sue Cella, Mrs Von Tussle, was one of my favorites on the stage. I dont think I have disliked any of the Mrs Von Tussles Ive seen and Ive seen maybe five.

Charlotte Crossley, Motormouth, did another cartoonish take on the role and a few of her choices distracted me, but I fully admit to LOVING Ms Davis in the NY cast who is one of the few remaining original cast members. Still she had an amazing voice. Change is just so hard to handle!

Troy Johnson, Corny Collins, great performance too. I had the pleasure of sitting next to his parents, nice people!

Kianna Underwood was just the cutest Lil Inez. She didn't give the role the attitude that some of the older NY actresses did and it was just adorable.

And I have no real criticism for the ensemble or the rest of the cast. everyone did their parts to perfection.

Marissa and Matt... I dont even know where to begin. I wasnt expecting to see Matts final performance when I planned my trip. Matty wasnt sad to be leaving though, unlike when he left the ny cast and bawled through half a song. The two of them have such amazing chemistry and I know Marissa was sad. I saw the show again two days later with Austin Miller as Link and it made me appreciate Matt that much more. Again Im extremely biased but Austin is no where near the dancer that Matt is and he plays the role as a goofball for whatever reason. Matts take on the character is nothing but sincere. My emotions were in a few places at once on Matt's final night... having flown out there to see the show and seeing the LAST performance of his when Hairspray is what let us get to know each other, I ended up crying during the show and Matt thought I was weird but whatEvEr.

I had already hung out with Matt twice before then but theres something special about standing around the stage door watching all the adoring fans try to catch his attention and get autographs. Katie, this 16 yr old girl that loves Matt and flew out there too, was with me outside waiting for him and he stood around talking to us for a few minutes, then did his thing with the fans and came back to chat a little more. We took that picture thats my icon here- In the picture, I had just told him he could sit on my lap and he said that was sexual harrassment, and I was like maybe for you and ran my hand down his side! Hence the evil smile Ive got. Katie got two cute pictures with him too, one in a headlock. Marissa was surprised to see me, but she thought it was sweet I was there. I saw Marc and met Jim both fleetingly. Marc was busy writing something that was due the next day and Jim was working long days with rehearsals and all for the new cast.

Tuesday night me, Katie and her dad went for pizza and she slept over my hotel room. She decided to fish through my garbage for his used fork, not my idea of fun but whatever floats her boat.

Wednesday Katie, her dad and I all went to Universal studios as planned. We had a great time. We got fake tattoos. Her dad rode a mechanical bull. We got hit on by some people in character and went on lots of rides. We had dinner at an italian restaurant on Sunset and I showed them all the hot night spots I knew. We couldnt really go in cuz katie was underage but we went to a liquor store and brought drinks back to the hotel.

Thursday I did a little walking around Hollywood Blvd again with time to actually browse. Jim bailed on me for dinner, rehearsals ran late and he had a meeting and so I had room service again. Still when I got to the show he sat with me in the audience before the show started and he drove me home that night. He didnt want to go out for a drink, he was dead tired and he felt bad for bailing on me. I heard all about the Hairspray gossip out there so it was fun anyway.

Friday I merely woke up and packed because my shuttle was picking me up at noon. I grabbed a bite to eat and I was off to the airport.

The trip was totally different from what I expected, but totally worth it!!
