Still on Team Lily, though if the show runs for several more years, I do think she'll be less effective as a pre-teen. (Forgive the the sidebar, but if you're a fan of the Lily type of character - the youngest kid who sometimes says the sharpest things with a wicked deadpan delivery, you'll love Karen from the Britcom 'Outnumbered')
I think the kids are still fine. Manny is annoying as Manny has always been. I actually kind of like Luke. I feel that the problems with his character are that they seem to want him to be playing a young Ty Burrell playing Phil than they want to give Luke a character of his own.
I do think that after last week's episode that Alex's breasts should get a higher billing than Sophia Vagara's though. Not since Cousin Oliver has something come out of no where to fill my entire TV screen and make me feel awkward.
Yes, Alex has grown up. I thought it was funny that she spent most of the episode clutching a notebook to her chest. And the camera seemed to be very discreet when shooting her scenes - which is kind of strange. I mean so she developed, what's the issue???
The kids are all skewed versions of the adults, rather than their own characters. Alex is a proto-Claire, Luke a photo-Phil, and Hayley is the more negative attributes of both parents together. Similarly, Lily is all the worst of Mitchell and Cam, and does not yet appear to have any of their good qualities.
Manny is an interesting case- he is everything alien and frustrating to Jay- as foreign as his wife (though with European affectations rather than South American), as socially awkward as his son-in-law, and as sociologically queer as his gay son and his husband (though he is heterosexual, he may be more sociologically queer than them, as his identity expression tends to limit his ability to function in society, while Mitchell and Cam fit in everywhere fairly well and rarely encounter prejudice in their liberal and progressive area.)
