Monica Goodling: Tonya Harding of Justice

Jeesh, what a appallingly self-servoing cog in the right wing machinery. I still cannot shake the strange Tonya Harding impression she gives, physically and otherwise. As the Times reported today, despite being one of the most powerful brokers in the Justice Dept, she plays herself as a sweet young innocent, a minor player, aiming always to do "the right thing" who doesn't know anything about nasty motives for firing. A "fairly quiet girl" (girl of 33--appropriately, like Eva Person when she died) who wouldn't speak to a soul on the hill without immunity and admited to apparently illegal practices. And since she had no prosecution experience, and a dubious scholastic achievement, she was apparently in place only because of her zealot-like loyalty, a girl who could be counted on to do a heckofa job protecting Republicans with vendettas.

In comparing dueling Monicas in different eras... it's fascinating that a girl adept at sucking off was more scorned than a girl who rose to the top merely sucking up.

Did anyone ask her why she tried to take the fifth if she didn't do anything illegal? It seems odd that a person with a law degree would so misunderstand the system.
