"Moon River":
Moon River, wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
wherever you're going I'm going your way
Two drifters off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end--
Waiting 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend
Moon River and me

What FOR, MD?
group presentation for my sepcial education class. we're doing it on "Blu's Hanging" and the song is repeated throughout the novel. the lyrics are gonna be a handout.
As you're probably aware, MD, I LOVE to Google...
ANYTHING else I can help you with?
My earliest memory of this song was when Peggy Lennon sang it on The Lawrence Welk Show. She sang it with a far away look in her eyes, and I just KNEW that her romantic life must be fabulous.
I SO wanted to *be* one of the Lennon sisters. But then again, I was in grade school, so what did I know...

Didn't you just LOVE Peggy? I always thought she was the prettiest. Golden Books (I think) put out a series of Janet Lennon mystery books in the 60's which I also loved.

I wanted to be part of the Lennon Family...I used to love their family Christmas specials. Wasn't one of the nieces on a sitcom....for some reason I'm thinking Petticoat Junction?
It was one of the few good moments about Dream on Broadway back in the 90s - Lesley Ann Warren sang it and it was haunting. I also love Nancy LaMott's version very much (of course, she can do no wrong in my book.)

BB- You might be thinking of the King Family - they had a show for 2-3 years and Christmas specials as well. One of the "King Cousins" - Tina Cole was on "My Three Sons".
Loved the King Family, too. They were all blonde except for one in-law who had jet balck hair. She stood out for all the wrong reasons. I think her name was Phyllis - another disgrace to my humble name.
Hey, wazza madder with the original--Audrey Hepburn strumming her guitar?
Where's Addy and her Avatar when you need her!
Ahhhh Bluemoon you are so right !!!! It was the King Family I loved. I do like the Lennon Sister too though....I have their "Best Of" CD. Damn senior moments !!!!
Boobs, I think the neice you're referring to is Tina Cole, a member of The King Family who spent many happy seasons on "My Three Sons"...
I'm here!
...and it's been a special song to me for as long as I can remember!
Note of Trivia:
Many theatre-goers walked out of the musical version of BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S because they opened their programs and saw--to their HORROR--that "Moon River" was NOT included in the musical...

King Family Trivia--They were LDS! (Like the Osmonds)
And, I love this song even more since I saw HBO's presentation of "Angels in America." It's the song that Louis and Prior dance to in the vision granted to him by the Ancestors.

My favorite version of the song is done by the Henry Mancini Orchestra and Chorus. One of the most beautiful recordings of all-time.
And speaking of The King Family, I recall a skit on The Carol Burnett Show, where she spoofed them. There was a very funny sight-gag, as the camera panned down the line of The King Sisters, Harvey Korman was in drag as one of them, and so was Isabel Sanford, in a blonde wig.
Andy Williams came to town 2 years ago to perform a benefit Christmas concert for the Atlanta Opera. His encore and only non-holiday number that evening was "Moon River". Mr. Williams considers this his signature song. I believe he has a theatre in Branson, Mo. where he performs much of the rest of the year -called the "Moon River Theatre"
Well, yes, it's definitely his signature song. He had a hit with it, and opened his television show for over 9 years with it. It's just such a great song, by any standard.
Judy Garland sang a lovely rendition on her tv series. Her voice soared when it got to "we're after the same rainbows end"
One of my favorite performances of hers from "The Judy Garland Show"
Wasn't Judy good friends with with Henry and Ginny Mancini?
It's one of those songs I picture her singing around the piano, late at night, in someone's living room...
"Do you like...do you like 'A Foggy Day'? I do..."
I adore this song.
It always had this beautiful sadness to it. It still does. There's something so wistful about it. I'm getting teary just thinking about it.

If you have never heard Nancy LaMott's version of Moon River, then you've never really heard the song.
Definitive.
