Did he lie to Congress?
"As he sought to renew the USA Patriot Act two years ago, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales assured lawmakers that the FBI had not abused its potent new terrorism-fighting powers. "There has not been one verified case of civil liberties abuse," Gonzales told senators on April 27, 2005.
Six days earlier, the FBI sent Gonzales a copy of a report that said its agents had obtained personal information that they were not entitled to have. It was one of at least half a dozen reports of legal or procedural violations that Gonzales received in the three months before he made his statement to the Senate intelligence committee, according to internal FBI documents released under the Freedom of Information Act."

"On Fox News Sunday this morning, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-GA) refused to defend Attorney General Alberto Gonzales against accusations that he may have perjured himself before Congress. “It’s very damaging…we badly need an attorney general who is above any question,” said Gingrich."

"WASHINGTON (CNN)–Another Republican Congressman has spoken out against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Rep. Chris Shays (R - Connecticut) said today on Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer, “He doesn’t have much credibility. And he would do us all a favor if he stepped down and allowed the president to select someone else. You need to be truthful to Congress. You can’t be inaccurate so often. Finally, there just builds up this incredible credibility gap.”
Shays is the latest in a series of Republicans to suggest Gonzales should step down from his post. The Attorney General has come under fire for the firing of U.S. attorneys, which critics say happened for political reasons."

"July 29 (Bloomberg) -- Senator Arlen Specter said details he will get tomorrow on a government surveillance program will help determine whether he'll back appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Attorney General Alberto Gonzales's congressional testimony...
... Democratic Senator Charles Schumer of New York said that the ``evidence is overwhelming' to justify appointment of a special counsel. ``There have been so many instances of the attorney general not telling the truth to the committee,' he said on ABC's ``This Week' program."

Well I wouldn't expect to hear much from Senator David Vitter who was one of the loudest voices to blast President Clinton. He was so "family Values" oriented that even his WIFE felt it necessary to lambast the first family saying that Hilary Clinton was wrong to forgive her husband and that if HER husband David did any such thing, she would react more like Lorena Bobbitt than Mrs. Clinton, colorfully saying that she'd leave that marriage with something of her husband's "And it wouldn't be Alimony."
But Senator Vitter is silent right now, busy defending himself after admitting that he was a client of a DC Escort Service. He admits to infidelity, but swears that he didn't ask to be diapered by the whore. His wife, happily, is standing by him and has shown no sign of dis-membering him.
