I guess the Underground has been evacuated.
Hopefully it isn't anything particularly serious.

This is so scaaaaary. Be safe, Londoners!
There's a mall a bit north of NYC that was evacuated yesterday; a package was found that had wires in it, and it was making ticking sounds. I think a controlled explosion was done to see what it was.

Well, I've removed my quotes in the subject line, as it sounds like info has been firming up a bit on this. It's so ridiculous!
Very scary indeed, emcee.

Posted: 7/21/05 at 9:19amThere are unconfirmed reports that it might be a prank. Something the tabloid paper might do to get a "scoop."

That explains the typical New York response to assume we're next. Even my train station, surely low on the list of sites, had police in it this morning.

Yesterday was the first time I had noticable police presence in mine.
I'm scared to go on the train again.

That is seriously derranged if it's true!
Sorry I don't really have any words of encouragement for you, emcee. Sadly, it's just something that we have to deal with/keep in the back of our minds living in NYC or any other major city...I guess. I don't know.

This "trickle effect" happened after 9/11 also, so hopefully it's nothig major. We had all those anthrax scares, and all of a sudden mailroom employees were (are?) required to wear latex gloves, etc.
The building I worked in at the time also housed an int'l bank, and we had bomb scare evacuations almost on a daily basis.

Note: from another website...I haven't checked BBC yet myself:
BBC News now report that:
Dummy explosions using detonators only have sparked the evacuation of three Tube stations and the closure of three lines, a BBC correspondent has said

What the hell does that mean? " Dummy explosions. It's kind of along the lines of what Forester was saying. Very strange.

Posted: 7/21/05 at 10:07amI'd imagine it's a bomb that's had nails added to it to increase the damage that it would do.

Yep basically a bag full of nails - easy way to cause lots of damage -
But it seems as if they were 'dummy' nail bombs so just made to look like bombs - 2 weeks to the day - 3 tubes and 1 bus again targeted - but not suicide bombers and not in rush hour so seems more symbolic and more like min effort to cause max disruption.
