Mormons Losing Members Over Anti-Gay Campaigns

"While the Mormon Church hierarchy was responsible for organizing millions of dollars and thousands of hours of manpower to pass California's Proposition 8 and Arizona's Prop 102, the church's tactics haven't sat so well with some of its members--including families, members with Mormon heritage going back 150 years, and gay members---who began speaking out in July on the website signingforsomething.org.

Many have public resigned from the church, citing reasons like these:"

Good.

My husbands parents told me why they left the church way back when.

She said, "How can I believe a religion that keeps changing it's rules whenever they don't like something?"

She equated them to Nazis.

To quote the SF Chronicle, "the church's sole filing by Nov 4 was for $2,864.21, according to the California secretory of state's office. The churh said that was an in-kind donation to pay for plane fare for its members... it was individual Mormons who contributed up to $20 million dollars."

I know this is a litte off topic, but the article is about the tax exempt status. Since the church itself didn't write the checks, but the members who did, it isn't an issue. (So sayeth some legal mumbo jumbo people.)

But they paid almost 3 mill in air fare for them after 'asking' members to donate the money and support Yes on 8?

Same thing.

Whoops, I read the amount wrong...

Whatever.

They are hateful bigots who influenced the election.

HALLELUJAH!

Our country IS NOT theocracy anyways~its democracy! these mormons never learned from its own history! UTAH was denied to join the Union for 55 years because of its POLYGAMOUS practice~they never really learn how to separate state and church, huh?

Good riddance! I'm sick and tired of these mormons~they think RELIGION=STATE!

re: Mormons Losing Members Over Anti-Gay Campaigns

No church, including the LDS, cares about losing members as long as it doesn't lose the money.

"Follow the money" as the saying goes, and the money stayed.

re: Mormons Losing Members Over Anti-Gay Campaigns

somehow this seems fitting, with slight modification

"And the money kept rolling out in all directions
'Gainst the gays, hate the gays, all good Mormons following directions
Now cynics claim a little of the cash has gone astray
But that's not the point my friends
When the money keeps rolling out you don't keep books
You can tell you've done well by the happy grateful looks
Accountants only slow things down, figures get in the way
Never been a church hated as much as this one"
