Movie Trailers Are Getting Cliched...

It seems as if every trailer nowadays has the exact same format.

If it's a comedy, it will start out by being completely serious.

It'll be like:

"He is bold

He is strong

And he...

(Record scratch)

...has absolutely no manners!"

If it's a drama, the opposite would be true.

For example:

(Husband and wife are picking apples)

"Oh no! I just dropped the apple on my head!

(Serious music starts up)

re: Movie Trailers Are Getting Cliched...

The only problem I have with a lot of movie trailers, is that it gives too much of a movie away. I mean, some trailers I watch and go, "Wow, now I don't have to actually sit through the movie."

And we're just NOW noticing that they're "cliched" (real word or not it works for this situation)?

They've all been horribly cliched for years and years. Forgot to mention those dramatic adventure movies (Lord of the Rings, Spiderman, etc.) The content of these trailers can be summed up in three words: Overexaggerated dramatic choir.

I think they're beginning to recycle these choir pieces - I swear they've used the same ones over and over again.

I agree, fabala. My only comment would be that this isn't anything new and it's been going on for many years.

The only (fairly) recent edition to the Land of Trailer Cliches is that they all seem to be edited like the shower scene from "Psycho." That started about ten years ago, and I have to look away from the screen now to prevent a seizure from coming on. It's serious sensory overload... and usually nonsensically crazy.

And spidey, I also agree that so often you've "seen the whole movie" by watching the trailer.

Hate that.

I'm also tired of the main voice over with that low, growly, breathy voice. SO over-the-top. NOBODY talks like that, ever, unless they're on a 900 number.

re: Movie Trailers Are Getting Cliched...

Some trailers are using the same cliches over and over and over again, but you know a trailer or teaser's job is to get us excited for the film and alot of them do that.

re: Movie Trailers Are Getting Cliched...

It's funny... If you're into old movies and watch the trailers from '40s or '50s movies... they all had their own cliches as well.

You start to hear the same guy do ALL the voice-overs. They're all edited in the same style(s), and all have the same graphic cards proclaiming it "the finest cinematic achievement ever to grace the screen!"

So, I guess, over time... these cliches fade... and are replaced by NEW marketing cliches for a modern era!

Can't wait 'til the next set of trailer cliches. I'm kinda sick of the current ones.

If I were a mean spirited person I'd say certain threads are getting cliched.

We all know it's true.
