I was recently asked to participate in Classical Singer's voice competition. I accepted, and the competition is in February and I need some art songs and tenor arias. I'm BIG in musical theater so I'm searching. I have two in my rep that could work: Amarilli Mia Bella and Lonley House from Street Scene. Amarilli doesn't show off much, and Lonley House shows me off well...but it's a mother. I've considered Il Mundo Era Vuoto (sp?) from Light in the Piazza, but I worry that's not what their looking for. Any suggestions?
Another thing if you have the music to Sweet Smell of Success or Joe!:the musical, please PM me so I can give you my adress. I'm searching for At the Fountain and Perfect Design, and I really want copies of them. Thanks!

try emailing aaron at broadwayscores@yahoo.com to see if he has the sheet music you're looking for. he's helped me out in the past and has a LOT of unreleased/hard to find stuff. he posts here under the sn broadwayscores
also, i think "il mondo" is NOT what they're looking for. they're looking for something from classical repertiore, not musical theatre, even though PIAZZA definitely has a classical influence.
do you sing in any languages other than english and italian?

A good tenor Aria that isn't to hard to cross over with is Outside This House from Vanessa, it has an A flat briefly. I wouldn't try to many Arias if you haven't been training classically.
Also try the 24 Italian Songs and Arias book, they have some great stuff in there. Like Pieta Signor, O del mio dolce ardor, and so on. Look at some of them with your teacher, they are good "foot in the door" songs for classical.
If your voice is a little bit lighter, try some Mozart arias, ones that aren't to hard because some of them are really crazy. Maybe Dies Bild from Die Zauberflote? A flats occur a lot in that piece.
You could also look into some Schubert pieces, like Wohin or Erlkonig, they are great acting pieces with a good story. There is a lot in those pieces. They are in German.
The sheet music for Sweet Smell of Success is out and released so you could get that at the music store, or PM me if you would like.
Hope that helps

i immediately thought of die zauberflote (the magic flute) when i read german. DEFINITELY take a look at tamino's arias.
also, for art song, check out faure. there are some pieces that wouldn't take as long to learn and are lyrical and GORGEOUS.
