Posted: 1/29/04 at 9:25pmI am looking for software for windows that gives me the ability to play back musical notes, or music in general. I want to be able to make music using my computer. Any Suggestions? Thanks!

Posted: 1/30/04 at 12:54amFinale is good, but more difficult to learn to use, and it has it's quirks. Sibelius is a good program too. If you want music sequencing software you need Musicshop or Cakewalk.

Thanks so much! I will look into you suggestions. Someone mentioned "Music Studio" to me, or something.
Is that any good?

Posted: 1/30/04 at 1:15pmI just started using Finale recently. It's a bit tricky to use and some things I haven't figured out at all. For example, sustaining a whole note with half note chords within the same measure. It won't let you layer in the Piano mode within the same staff measure. I also haven't figured out how to create rests other than adding a note, then deleting it, then moving the remaining rests and notes to the required configuration. It always assumes the note you assign will fall onto the very next beat.

I have been using Finale for about 3 years. Sibilus is a more powerful program and a bit easier to use btu for some reason i keep goign back to finale. Finale does let you hook in an instrument, play, and it will transcribe it for you but i cannot get this option to work for me. Oh well. Mister Matt if you have any questions i can answer them To do rests simply hold shift then press the number coorisponding to the beat value.

Posted: 2/1/04 at 5:53pmI use Score Writer. It's not very complex or fancy, but it meets my needs for simple arranging. It's the dumbed-down version of Overture, and at $ 49.00, the price was right.
