He has to clear a path for his successor because he now owes the party bosses that much.

Come Oct 1 of this year, the new Fed fiscal yr 2015 begins which will be the last one in which anyone inside the beltway actually pays him any mind. A year from that will be Oct 1 2015 which will "unofficially" mark him as a lame-duck after which the chattering class will only be interested in the quadrennial beauty pageant known as the national GOP primaries.

Don't expect to see a FY2016 budget enacted until shortly before the proposed Feb 1, 2016 Iowa caucuses, after threats of another gov't shutdown.

If Hillary runs, the Dems of course will go through the motions of hosting a nominating convention.

I agree 100%. He seems like a likable enough fellow but I've been consistent in suggesting that he's a politico first and foremost. And I'm not so naive as to expect anything less from someone seeking the office of POTUS, regardless of party affiliation.
