Now, I've known people who do not like musicals. It's just not their thing. I can understand. But this man has an almost seething hatred for them, believing that they are "specifically there only for visual aid."
"musicals, despite how well produced, are completely boring unless you're actually there."
"listening to it by itself is usually incredibly boring because theater is minimalist, watching/experiencing the characters.acting is the main draw. and musicals combined theater and music, making half of the experience dead if you're just listening"
"and hardcore fans of very ****tty musicals make me want to be locked in a cellar with emo kids"

Oh jeez. I can't stand football and don't understand how others can watch it.
Does that make me a closeted fan or a wannabe quarterback? NO. People have different tastes.

Actually, I would agree to some extent. Musicals aren't created solely for the eardrums. And they are meant to be experienced live.
If he's bored by cast recordings as "stand alone" entertainment, I wouldn't call him an idiot. He's just finding them pointless without the full experience, and I don't see anything wrong with feeling that way.

Well, while idiot may be a strong term, I do tend to roll my eyes at any who makes any grand, sweeping proclamations about theatre (or anything, really). "Theatre must do this...," etc.. All of his statements are a little too broad and expansive for me to take too seriously.

Rathy-Poo . . . it was meant to be kind of a joke. I was not serious.
Carry on!

So what about people who LISTEN to sports games on the radio? Or WATCH music videos for songs that were meant to be "listened to"?
Eh. That's his opinion, and I've got mine.
I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky
