A very funny farcical novel in the Armistead Maupin vein about a closeted action film star.
Has anyone read this or Keenan's previous books?
He won an Emmy for writing "Frasier".
did he also write MY BLUE HEAVEN? has there been more since? I gave both those novels to a composer friend as ideas for a new musical...but he is notoriously slow in writing.
His books are laugh-out-loud funny.
He has SUCH a way with words!
I was given 'My Lucky Star' for my birthday because the friend who gave it to me said the characters of Gilbert and Claire reminded him of us. I'm still trying to figure that out...
Can I please finish one book before you start giving me others that I need to buy and read now Wildy.
His first two books are hysterical. I have Lucky Star sitting on my nightstand, but haven't read it yet.
I bought it as soon as it came out! It indeed was, as the previous two, laugh-out-loud funny. I had to read passages aloud in the car one day!
Great! I'll chase up the first two books now.
Today!
This instant!!
Putting on the Ritz was the follow-up to My Blue Heaven.
Putting on the Ritz and Blue Heaven are two of my favorite comic novels ever. I'm looking forward to reading this one!
And Addy...you could definitely play Claire in the movie--or movie musical!
so I know of those two (STAR and HEAVEN), but has there been a third?!?!?
Wow - you really DID love this one.
I'll be checking it out then.
Although each one is funny on its own, I recommend reading them in order (Heaven, Ritz, Star). They do build upon each other to some degree.
hey RATH long time no type. Are you the Lesbyterian I once proposed child-rearing together with from this board?!?!?! Seems like I've only read two Keenans, and since I passed them on, not sure if they were HEAVEN and STAR or HEAVEN and RITZ. Somebody PM me the plots (so there are no spoilers on here) and then i can get the one left in question and speedread it just to be sure. They are that funny, in a "Thin Man" kind of way.
Tx, Star was only released a couple of months ago.
ah, then I must have read HEAVEN and RITZ. Are the characters continuing? I hope so....
Oh yes, they are all back. This time they move to California to become screenwriters. Hilarity ensues.
As I recall, I read the first two before Will & Grace became a hit. While reading Star I couldn't help but picture Jack as Gilbert.
I'm never going to be able to look at the 'Oscars' the same way again...
Hee hee ...
