I have been keeping an online journal since I arrived on campus freshman year. I decided then that I would keep it through senior year, and then print it out and put it in a book. I also promised one of my good friends that I would let him read it after we graduate.
It's been erased.

The whole site has been erased.
I feel as though I've lost a part of myself.
And like I've lost a close friend.
I mean, I'm not weeping hysterically, but it's painful.
And unexpected.
And bad timing.
I just wanted to vent.
Awww, honey...
That's terrible! I'm so sorry...
*big sympathetic hugs*
That sucks! Sh*t I would be pi**ed as hell if something like that happened to me. One of my friends keeps a computer diary thing, and he just uses Notepad. Guess you can never trust those online websites, never know when they're gonna disappear. Always keep backups of your entries.
See, I had it backed up on computer, but my computer died over the summer. So I have about three months of it backed up on a school server, but since that's from my abroad experience, it's really not the socially important stuff. I want to be able to read about my first day of college and my first kiss and my first date... and all of that's gone. It's just depressing.
Aww, that sucks. I'm sorry! Updated On: 2/28/06 at 08:04 AM
This might be an impossible thing, but if you can find out who owned the server that hosted the site, it's possible you might be able to get your information.
Of course, I offer up this information with not one clue as to how you would do that, but there it is.
I'm so sorry it's gone.

There's your information... Have at it, my dear.
I'm very sad to hear this. You had some real poetry and memories out there.
Have you tried to get it out of google's cache?
oh, ~ff~, I am SO sorry!
I always enjoyed reading the parts of it you shared with me.
I hope you're able to recover it.

That's really sad, but sounds like you still have a lot to say in a new one? Maybe?
Ckeaton, for those posters dimwitted on things like this (like me!), could you explain how you'd get it out of Google's cache?

You search for the specific pages, then click on the "cache" link instead of the actual link. That's a pretty limited solution, but it did help me reclaim a lost blog entry once.
SH*T, I need to back up my blog. Blogs. Oh god.
So sorry, ff!! That's terrible and so frustrating
If you know your direct URL you can try www.archive.org and see if it can still be pulled up.
i'm really sorry.
I had an online journal on some site that could only be 18 year olds and of course I lied (i could use it now if I wanted to but don't). don't know how they found out but everything that happened to me while I was at a theatre summer program during the summer I was 16 was gone cause they deleted it cause I wasn't 18. i emailed them back asking them if I could just get back on to copy it and save it or if they could send it to me, but they said no. I hate them. and it had everything. first time getting drunk, first time making out with someone 4 years older than me, first time making out with someone 5 years older than me, meeting famous people. it sucks.
sorry ff.
I tried google's cache yesterday, but no luck. I'll go try that archive site now.
Nope. No luck.
*sadness*

That sucks!!
If you redo it, you might want to do it on two seperate sites, so if one shuts down, you'll have the other.
And possibly writing it on Word and then copying and pasting it into the journal entry might work, too, because then you can save it.
