Posted: 10/24/06 at 11:00pmI was soaking it in mouthwash, and when I poured the mouthwash down the drain, the retainer fell down with it. It then temporarily got stuck, and I tried to pry it out with tweezers, but they pushed it in, and now my retainer is probably somewhere in the sewage system.

Does your sink have a trap? (ie; a u shaped pipe under the drain). Take that off and most likely your retainer is in there.

I'm not sure if it has a trap, but I'll definitely check.

I never had a retainer -- or braces, for that matter. My teeth are naturally straight.

I checked and I don't have a trap. I live on the top floor of a building, so the only trap we woud have, if any, would be in the basement or something. And then I would have to sift through tons of stuff from over 100 apartments' sinks. 
Well, thank goodness I only have to wear it at night.
Unfortunately, I probaby wouldn't be able to make it to the orthodontist for at least 3 weeks. Hopefully, this won't do much damage. If I have to wear braces again, I'll kill somebody!!

bway, how long since you've had braces? I'm sure no serious damage will be done.
I always wanted a retainer, I thought it was so cool that they could glow in the dark and everything.

I got my braces off in May or June, and had had them for about two-and-a-half years. When you count the retainers I wore before the braces, I've been undergoing orthodontistry fot about 5 years.
I forgot to mention that this is a retainer for my bottom teeth. The separate retainer for my top teeth is fine.

When I was little, I thought braces were diamond studs. No kidding! For that reason, I begged my parents to get me some, to no avail. One time, I even unwound a paper clip and made a pretend retainer. Yeah, I was lame.
