So, I'm doing Crazy for You this summer and it's been going okay. The problem is the audiences. They all love the show but there have been so few of them. In a theater seating 400, we've averaged about 100 people a night. Today, though, the paper just printed a great review for us and just in the last few hours tickets sales have picked up considerably. Just wanted to share my excitement. It's nice to work hard for something and have it recognized. Here's the review if ya'll are interested:

"CRAZY FOR YOU:" One of the strongest, most sure-footed musical productions from Northwest Children's Theater to date, this 1992 Tony Award-winning remake of "Girl Crazy" from 1930 by Ira and George Gershwin spins out splendidly, a combination of sugary froth and tangy wit blended by a flurry of tap dancing. Here's an example of a revamped show highly improved from the original, helped along by extra Gershwin tunes from films.

Offering plenty of opportunity for young talent to sing, dance and act, the show's a real tour-de-force production for the company, whose theater school provides kids and teens a chance to perform. Sarah Jane Hardy's inventive direction and glorious choreography bring together the show's most important elements into a seamless flow.

John Ellingson easily embraces the character of Bobby Child, a New York banker smitten with dance who leaves the market behind to pursue a career. He's dapper yet eager, obsessed with performing and prepared to make a fool of himself in the name of love. Vaudeville humor surfaces when Bobby performs a scene with crust-and-bluster Broadway producer Bela Zangler (a delicious performance by Kevin-Michael Moore, who is a walking sight gag).

Other fine performances come from Aimee Ankeny as Bobby's love interest Polly Baker, the postmistress of Deadrock, Nev., where some unlikely folks put on a show. The graceful set by Patrick Larsen, which takes us from Manhattan to Deadrock with a few simple readjustments, works like a charm. Songs include "Embraceable You," "Bidin' My Time," "I Got Rhythm" and "They Can't Take That Away From Me."

Congrats, TheatreGuy!

America needs more Gershwin. Thanks for making that happen.
