The only bits that worked for me were the parts that hewed most closely to the actual books: the fall down the rabbit hole; the hall doors with the "drink me" bottle and "eat me" cake; the croquet game; even the tea party, for a minute or two.
Otherwise I was mostly distracted: by Depp's 2-D makeup, by the cliched Victorian scenes; by the faux-Narnia battle sequences.
I liked whatsername's Alice, more or less; liked Helena Bottled Water's queen; more or less liked Anne Hathaway's combo Billie Burke/Liv Tyler.
But essentially, he could have used "Wizard of Oz" or "Secret Garden" to do the exact same thing.
