A friend of mine just forwarded this email from another friend of hers at Tulane...I don't know this person but I trust my friend who forwarded me the email, and I figured many of you here would be interested...
Dear Friends and Family,
I would normally be emailing you from my Tulane University account, but I cannot. Like most things in New Orleans, it is down and broken indefinitely. As I sit up here in Michigan, the scenes on television seem almost surreal. I hesitate to believe that the city I have grown to love over the past two years is in such a devastated state. I want to think that it's a dream, but I cannot. Too many of my fellow Emergency Medical Technicians from Tulane EMS are down there, helping to evacuate hospitals. On the rare occasions when their cell phones work, I am met with the grim tone that I have come to expect. So I ask myself: Can I really just sit here and do nothing? I CANNOT.
After the Hurricane hit, three of my good friends from school and I have been working around the clock to set up a unique non-profit relief fund. NOLA Hurricane Fund is a Tulane student led project to help rebuild New Orleans.
If you believe that young people can make a difference, then I need your help.

I am sending this email to you (all my facebook friends and my family) because you know me. You know that I have integrity, and I wouldn't offer you an option that wasn't completely legitimate.
Also, if you want more information or to volunteer your time, please contact me at arubens2000@yahoo.com with your email address and phone number. Our team is orchestrating numerous fundraising efforts, and the help of college students is essential.
This is an issue that I feel very deeply about. Many of you know that I am supposed to study abroad at the London School of Economics this year. I am seriously considering putting that off to focus on saving New Orleans. In either case, I will remain an integral part of this effort. I will keep you posted.

Sidenote: We are working under Cactus, which is Tulane's non-profit service organization.
also, the Louisiana Library Association now has asked for donations to help school, public and college libraries affected by this disaster.....this money will go directly to libraries affected.
