Did anybody see this show tonight on Showtime?
I thought it was okay for a pilot episode, didn't love it, it seems like they are trying to present her as a female House. I thought Edie Falco really made the whole thing work though, she's pretty great. It was also nice to see Tony-nominee Eve Best in a really funny part and the wonderful Anna Deavere-Smith in a more minor role.

I thought it was pretty okay, not the best but it piqued my interest. The second episode is on Showtime on Demand currently and I liked it better than the pilot. It has much more of a rhythm to it (which was expected)
Ohh thanks for the heads up, I'll check out the second episode when I get home. It does seem like the kind of show that will get better as the episodes go by. Showtime pilots tend to be great (WEEDS, US OF TARA, and DEXTER all had brilliant pilots), so I was a bit let down by NURSE JACKIE, but it deserves a chance mainly because it has a really wonderful cast. Part of me, however, feels like there are way too many medical dramas coming out (MERCY, NURSE JACKIE, and HAWTHORNE all premiering within the next few months are all medical dramas, curiously enough they are all about nurses).
I saw ome scenes and it looked interesting. Mostly accurate in the Med stuff I saw. BUT I know that the Nursing organizations are gonna get all up in arms about Nurse Jackie's "special problem." All sorts of stuff about zero tolerance , portraying the pfofession in apoor light yadda yadda yadda. They ALWAYS get their knickers in a knot if nurses are shown as anything short of pristine perfect.

Saw the second episode on demand and it's fantastic! Eve Best is pretty hilarious (as is Anna-Deveare Smith in a part I imagine will become bigger as the show goes on) and well, Edie Falco does a fantastic job at mixing funny, dry sarcasm, and a lot of pathos. It is a bit too much like the female House, but it's Edie Falco so if someone can do something different with the part, it's her. After that second episode, I'm hooked.

Is anyone still watching?
I've loved this show from the beginning and was a little worried about the changes for Season 5, but I just finished watching the season 5 finale (Soul) and am still really impressed.
Not a spoiler to mention that Broadway actor John Cullum is featured as an elderly, dying Gay man. One nice element of the plot setup is that he's not dying from AIDS or HIV complications, but rather as "a survivor". (No spoiler there, as it's revealed right out of the gate, as part of the character's introduction.)
It's a great finale episode that had me in tears and in shock... Some very nice scenes between Cullum and cabaret artist Stephen Wallem. Very emotional.

I am glad to say I "Knew Steve when..."
Back in Rockford, IL, I helped out on an audition for a Summer theater and still, thirty-plus years later, can recall the purity of Steve's voice as he sang "With You" from Pippin. He was wonderful.
Watched the season finale yesterday and also shed a tear or two. Still one of my favorite shows.
