New York City in the late 1970s. I love the Macy's Roller Skate display!! Back when Macy's sold to the middle class.
I found this photo set through another website. I have no knowledge of who the person is.

Really enjoyed the pix Goth. Like Wexy I could have been banging around those locales myself.
Need a shot of Howard Johnson's/Gaiety theater.

Liked these.
I keep thinking I'll reach a point when I don't flinch seeing a pic of the towers. I'm not sure that's ever going to happen.

In the second set, in the picture titled "Greeley Square" you can see Korvette's on the left. Those were the days, Macy's, Korvette's, Gimbels, all in a line.

This is the New York I wish I knew.
That said...can someone explain this to me?
I worked in a department store back then and was "selected" to wear an outfit like those and hand out balloons for the day. It was the height of the space shuttle development.

Loved those pics.
I didn't start going to NYC on a regular basis until 1981, but those shots of Times Square and all those movie theatres that no longer exist...
Still seems like something else is gone, especially on 8th Av, every time I'm in the city.
My first trip was in 1981 too! Summer...I fell in love and moved there in 1984.
Sure it's safer now, but back then it was AWESOME! Thanks for posting.

I was in Times Square a couple of weeks ago tripping over the tourist line at Bubba Gump Shrimp and the M+M store and the "street mall."
There was a cop my age (50s) on duty and I (mortified at the Pop Tart and Hello Kitty stores)said to him "I miss the 70's" and he nodded and smiled and I went on my way but I turned back for a moment and the cop was still smiling.
I think I knew the 2 guys watching on the right, with their arms folded.
They used to stand just like that, with the same attitude, at Uncle Charlies.
I had those white shorts...mine were tighter.
"I think I knew the 2 guys watching on the right, with their arms folded."
I was assuming that was you and Reggie.
Oh, how I miss Canal Street from that time period. You could find ANYTHING in one of those surplus store! There was one store that sold nothing but fountain pumps! I moved to the city in 73' spent many an hour rummaging through those junk stores for parts for various projects. All are gone now for knock off handbag, glasses and watch store.
Great pictures!
