If you want the best chance of getting heavy discounts, go during mid-January to February, when the Christmas/New Year's tourists are gone and it's too cold for more to come. Some shows might close by then due to the adverse conditions, but it's likely most of them will try to drag themselves into spring.
On the other hand, it's really cold sometimes. When I went to see BFO last winter, there was an actual frostbite advisory- you weren't supposed to stay outdoors more than 15 minutes. So that's worth taking into account. Good luck. :)

Posted: 9/5/04 at 5:40pmit's hard to say... try not to go during any kind of school breaks because lots of tourists come then... but then again during the school year you always have school trips. it depends what you want to do i guess. i don't know, i love NYC. it is beautiful when it gets closer to the holiday season.

Posted: 9/5/04 at 10:24pmIf you're here in the January-March interlude, there's also the chance that you'll be able to take advantage of discounts offered on the more established shows on Broadway. It's deemed the "winter sale" and I also think it coicides with the Broadway "Season of Savings" discounts.

Posted: 9/6/04 at 1:03amJan-March does have a lot of discounts (was brutal the last two Januaries though!, at least when I was there, and I am from a cold clime). But you also run the risk that some of the shows you want to see will have closed by then. Of course, if it's your honeymoon, that shouldn't be your prime concern....
