Hey guys,
I'm moving to NYC at the end of August, and I'm familiar with the city for the most part, but how's the lesbian scene? Can anyone suggest any lesbian bars or clubs? I'm from L.A./West Hollywood area and we have a ton of lesbian bars, but it seems that there is more of a lipstick lesbian community in West Hollywood, as opposed to NYC, or am I completely wrong and just haven't been introduced to it yet?
Anyway, if any of you know of any lesbian bars, clubs, or hangouts, please comment. I really have no idea where to start.
Thanks...

HX and Next are two of the gay mags or "fagazines" as i call them here in the city, and there's one geared more for women, but the name escapes me. Henrietta Hudson's and Meow Mix are two bars, but i think HH closed...Rubyfruit is a cool lesbian-esque restaurant, and the latin club escuelita does a cool girl night as well. Best of luck!
However, I do have a friend that I would love to get into the scene, but she's very shy and not a drinker/partyer, so if you find some resource, please post it here.
Rath!
Thanks, lildogs. I'll definitely pick up those mags when I arrive in the city. Whenever I visit, I go out with my guy friends to Splash and Marie's Crisis, but they seem to have all the luck.
I'm not much of a drinker/partier, but I will on occassion. I'm mainly just looking to meet people (cute lesbians are always good to meet), and it just seems really difficult to find 'em. I'm old fashioned and I'd rather go to a bar and meet someone, than use an online website, but that'll probably change.
There have to be more of you out there that know about the lesbian scene in the city...
Anyone??
Again..... RATH!
Rath is single to woman, but not men..no matter what Melissa Errico Fan says !!!!!
I am in a unique situation - a lesbian being fought over by a gay and a straight man!
I am single, and I don't do the bar scene. I've met my past g/f's through work or shared social interests.
Rath is mine, BroadwayBeyotch...I mean, Boobs.
Rumble at sundown Melissa Anus fan.
I challenge you to a duel, Boobsy. Shall we do showtunes at dawn or standards at dusk?
Back when Middie was hip, cool and lived in the East Village (only seven years ago), he often frequented Meow Mix. There was no better way to meet cute gay boys (and the dykes that loved them.)
show tunes at dawn it is.
I hope you don't expect me to be judging some singing contest at dawn. The only contest I would judge at dawn would be in my dreams. Literally.
I'm a bit shy, so unless I know there's a chance the girl is a lesbian, I don't say much. That's why I'm looking into the bar scene because if there's a girl in a lesbian/gay bar, chances are she's a lesbian. Plus, I recently came out (it hasn't even been a year yet), so I am very new to the scene.
Lesbian here! *waving*
TimeOut NY has a good listing of places to check out. Also, try: http://www.prideriver.com/Bars.htm
Beaver, I agree with you...I always was amazed how many women lived in or around the city, but how lesbian bars were almost non-existant.
*waves back to heartinnyc*
Nice to find a fellow lesbian!
Anyway, thanks so much everyone. I will definitely be checking out some of these spots when I move.
i'm in a similar boat- movin' to brooklyn in august (that's right kids, the one and only feinstein in hittin' ny... pratt to be more exact). let me know if you find any place cool, annie, b/c i have no idea what the seen is like. i'm not even drinking age yet so i guess that cancels out bars, huh? maybe i should just stand in the middle of the street and sing "la-uh-uh-uh-ove for sale."
Feinstein:I'm not of drinking age either yet, but to know there are lesbian bars around, and there are ways around not being technically of age in this country, yet being oh so close. There are ways...

Speaking of bar names - does The Clit Club still exist?
