Maureen Dowd's piece today nails the irony -- he's got Poppie's numbers just before he was replaced by Bill Clinton. Everyone of course thinks the irony will extend to Bill's spouse replacing this one.
Personally, I find the only person among our weak array of Republican Lite Dems -- Herself prominent (read Bob Herbert this week -- Hill's somewhere to the right of Lieberman on far too many issues for my money) who speaks with moral authority, true courage, and b--ls, is Fuss Feingold. I love his passion and level headedness, but fear he'd never take the country.

let's look at some historical election voting breakdowns:
1992: 34% d 34% r 33% i
1996: 39% d 34% r 27% i
2000: 39% d 35% r 26% i
2004: 37% d 37% r 26% i
cbs/nytimes breakdown for the current poll: 37% d 25% r 34% i
gimme those odds anyday on mid-term elections. ever heard the word cocoon? of course, unlike pauline in '72, instead of wondering how it happened when no one you know would ever vote that way, it'll be the indignant scream that becuase no one you know voted that way, it could not possibly have happened.

I'm interested in hearing how anyone could still support this Administration. Papa? Actually, its scary to me that over thirty percent of the people in this country actually approve of bush's job performance. I cant see one significant positive thing hes done for this country. If I were to say he and his Administration have been a complete and utter embarrasment, that would be an understatement. Is it the fact that these Republicans are so afraid that a liberal President will be elected, that they'd support him no matter what? If anything, the positive approval numbers are a good indication to me that this party is rooted in fear. Fear of liberals, fear of invasion, fear of gays..just sad afraid people.

I don't know a single fellow Democrat in any state who supports Hillary. Last fall, when I went to the anti-war rally in DC with a bus load of Jersey Democrats -- grannies, whole families, first time marchers, not far lefties -- the only person loathed as much as Bush was Hillary. For being so silent and Republican Lite. For putting her finger to the wind before speaking. For pandering (flag burning). For being so silent--wait, I said that.
At the rally, literally thousands commented loudly on her absence (along with ever other coward from the party -- and we have a lot of 'em right now, or Bush's numbers would be helping somebody). The idea that she's the presumptive nominee is wishful thinking on the part of Republicans. We may not be behind anyone yet, but we sure as hell ain't behind her. And her 34% tells that story. I'll take Russ F. any day.
