NYU Tisch Audition

I'm applying to NYU (Tisch) this fall and I was wondering... does the audition involve dancing? I would expect that it would, yet it is never mentioned on the admissions page. Anyone know?

re: NYU Tisch Audition

It doesn't. If you're auditioning for CAP21 you'll do two monologues and a song, and if you're just auditioning for drama just the two monologues. Good luck!

Actually, if you are an accomplished dancer, you can sign up for one of the auditions slots with the dance component included. This is only recommended for serious dancers, though.

"Good luck!"
Thanks, I'm so excited, even though it's about 3-4 months away :)

Thanks for the info Erinrebecca :)

re: NYU Tisch Audition

auditioning for CAP21 doesn't require any other applications or steps right? just kinda make it clear that musical theatre is what you're going for? is the entire audition a "Tisch" audition, where are the programs are auditioned together, or is CAP21 separate?

re: NYU Tisch Audition

As far as I know, it's a "Tisch" audition. You just have to use different materials for the specific courses you want to take. I've heard from past auditioners that they always ask you if you are willing to accept admission into any studio other than CAP21 (or the one you've expressed interest in). So, it would be extremely advisable to know about the other studios ahead of time. My friend who auditioned there told me that it was a big deal that she didn't know anything about the other studios...like, they looked down upon her ignorance or something.

re: NYU Tisch Audition

Are the auditions with dance components only held in New York?

re: NYU Tisch Audition

I totally forgot that they did have some auditions where you could dance (obviously thats not what I did lol). What will happen at the audition is that you'll be in a group of like 8 and when you get there you'll all fill out forms saying what pieces you're doing on so on. Then they collect the forms and use that to decide the order that people audition in, so chances are you'll do some waiting around before you audition. I can't remember if they have a preference on whether you do your song or your monologues first, but they do not have an accompinest so you'll need a tape. After you do your stuff, they (and actually it's usually just one person from Tisch) will interview you and ask you your preference for what studio you want, and like someone else wrote, it's good to know about all of them. A lot of people request CAP21 and don't get in, but most of the other studios offer voice and dance classes. They'll also ask you other questions kind of like a typical college interview. Hope that helps. If you have any other questions about the audition or Tisch in general let me know.

Thanks so much again everyone for the info. re: NYU Tisch Audition

Also, I was wondering where I could find some good monologues/songs that haven't been overly done. I'm really paranoid about picking something that the auditioners have heard 578,574,849 times...
