Nail Polish

This thread is about Nail Polish- howevever, it is not limited to females.
How many guys use nail polish here? I'm assuming you don't use color and just use the clear kind. Whatever you use, feel free to announce it loud and clear. After all, it's BWW- everything is talked about here.
Now, gals- What color polishes are you fond of? Do you paint your toenails and fingernails the same color? Do you get a manicure/pedicure or do you do it yourself? I tend to do it myself. I would get it done but it's too much money and the cheaper ones don't do it all that well. Just walking by the nail stores in the mall make me want to puke.
I usually put a lighter color on my toenails although I often don't paint them. I put a lighter color on my fingers for the summer and a somewhat darker color for the winter months. I don't like the deep dark colors though. I was never into purple or the deep reds...
My friends sometimes put designs on their nails. I don't like that- it looks too crowded.
**SHHHHH***-- one of my friends writes out math formulas on her fingernails....*rolls eyes*
I tend to do like a light or dark pink. And then of course I put the top layer on of "quick dry" or that stuff that supposedly makes your nails stonger.
Also, what else do you do with nail polish? Sometimes when I have a run in my stockings, I put a little clear nail polish on and usually it holds it for the time I need it.
Anyway- I'll shut up now. Sorry if this is a mundane thread. I am feeling kinda bored and can't do much- I am letting my nails dry

I like to use light pinks on my fingers and bright fushia on my toes. I'm also quite fond of dark green (divine decadence!), purple, or turquoise on my fingers. And deep red on my toes.
I had my nails done once and I'll probably never do it again. The pedicure was FANTASTIC, but my fingernails chipped off that same day. Total waste of money. Of course, that's what I get for having my nails done in the mall :)

re: Nail Polish#4
Posted: 1/8/06 at 11:07pmI don't like wearing nail polish because it always starts to chip off and I don't like to leave it on if it's chipping. So then I have to take it off (usually not long after I've put it on), which is annoying. If I do wear nail polish, it's usually clear, or sometimes a really light pink. I've only got a professional manicure done once, for prom. I don't want to spend money on it.
re: Nail Polish#5
Posted: 1/8/06 at 11:09pmI only use hot pink and red when I do polish myself. I can never get sheer polish on right...I do like a light sheer pink (particularly fond of fed up by essie) on the rare occasions where I get my nails done outside. I like pedicures, but I don't like polish on my toes.
re: Nail Polish#6
Posted: 1/8/06 at 11:14pmi don't get pedicures. i got one once, and they used dirty tools or something and cut my toe by mistake and it got infected.

I got a pedicure once but never again. I am not tickleish at all; however, there is something about pedicures.
I felt like I was paying someone to annoy me. I squirmed in the chair like crazy and wiggled my feet. Uhhh- it was a horrifying experience.

re: Nail Polish#8
Posted: 1/8/06 at 11:17pmI don't like painting my fingernails that much because I just leave it there forever cause I'm too lazy to take it off and then it looks all ugly and chipped. But I do my toes sometimes. Right now theyre blue.

In the summer I do my toes because I go barefoot or wear flip-flops most of the time. I rarely do my fingers, but if I do, I usually use some shade of pink.
A lot of my friends have tips, but I could never do that. I use my hands way too much and typing would be bothersome.
I've gotten my nails done two or three times. These weren't bad experiances per se, but the color of my nails isn't important enough to me to spend so much money.
My toes are currently pink, and my fingers are bare.

I don't have a problem with my fingernails being either bare, partially bare, or chipped and ugly, but I hate my toes looking like that.
My toenails have been perpetually black since probably the eighth grade... is that gross?
re: Nail Polish#11
Posted: 1/8/06 at 11:32pmnot gross at all...my toenails were black for about a year. I stopped because people kept making comments about me being "goth" or "emo", which I'm definately not- I just like black toenail polish.

Usually my fingernails are clear or light pink. I used to go all out for my toenails- blues, greens, glitter, each toe painted a different color, 'Crackle,' etc.- back when I wore open toed shoes all the time in L.A., but since I moved to NY my toes are clear now too. Once it warms up outside I'll be painting again. :)
And I love mani/pedis- that was one of the first things I found after I moved, a new place to get a mani/pedi. I could understand why they would suck if you have ticklish feet or something, though. Although I do my own touch-ups in between visits.

Pet Peeve No 2 - the crazy woman clipping her toe nails on a flight to Boston, in apparent anticipation of putting some polish on her nail.

ok both your pet peeves are gross- ewwww!!
I am starting to get a pet peeve: people who paint their nails on the subway- the smell of nail polish (and sometimes remover) in such a small enclosed space really bugs sometimes.

I always have my toenails painted. I refuse to leave the house with them bare, even if I'm wearing boots or something. I occasionally get pedicures, but I usually do them myself and always pink or red tones.
I don't paint my nails as often anymore, because my nails grow too fast and I don't have time to deal with it.

I never paint my fingernails, and paint my toenails when I think about it, which is really often during the summer and not-so-often during the winter. I really like pearly-white or pink colors, but occasionally I'll do osmething like dark red.
People actually paint their nails on the subway? I can't imagine.

My toes are always done, usually in darker shades of maroon, red, pink, or a medium purple. My fingernails are usually unpainted, but right now they are a light purple.
I love getting manicures/pedicures, the city has great $18 mani/pedi specials. I do that all summer, prob every other week. In the winter, maybe once every month or two, I'll usually do it myself.

Posted: 1/9/06 at 1:51amToes are always blood red or black, but only in the summer. My fingernails get destroyed by my job at certain points, but I've been having really nice long vampy nails lately. I only use some kind of deep lustrous red until the summer when I go hot pink. China Glaze is the best nail polish brand ever.
re: Nail Polish#19
Posted: 1/9/06 at 9:11amI love getting pedicures, but rarely have the extra cash on hand to get it done. I go maybe twice a year for a mani/ped. Right now my finger nails and toe nails are the same color. My finger nails have chipped polish and it is driving me nuts. This is why I rarely paint my nails. Usually a get a darker shade on my toes than on my fingers.

I would LOVE to get a pedicure, but I think I'm way too ticklish.
I can't even remember the last time I had nail polish on my fingers. A few years, I would guess. I just can't deal with it. This is very odd, but it always made me feel claustrophobic.
I only do my toenails in the summer, and I do my own french manicure thing. I had a kit, but the line always got screwed up. I can keep it cleaner and straighter if I do it free-hand.
re: Nail Polish#21
Posted: 1/9/06 at 11:02amI get pedicures and manicures. I usually use red or a pinky color. I use the same color on both my nails and toes. Right now I don't have anything on though. But that will be changed in a few days! I am really ticklish and end up laughing when they are rubbing my feet.

How exactly does one put math formulas on fingernails??
I don't paint my fingers anymore cos it chips off and I never remove it unless I get bored in class and pick at it and it ends up looking like crap.
I painted my toenails red & silver for Christmas and haven't taken it off yet...
I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

My toes are ALWAYS painted. Usually they're a deep plum, silver, gold, or a burgandy-red.
My fingers are sometimes painted, and they're either clear, red, or a frosty shade of blue or pink or purple.
