re: Named five schools have musical therter training in NYC.

I don't know if this helps you any but I looked up the official "word" about scholarships at Tisch.

There are two types for Tisch. One is not a scholarship grant but is a program. It is called Tisch University Scholars. There are approximately 15-18 Tisch students per year chosen for this. My kid happens to be one of these as well. It is a great program and while it is not money for tuition, there are all expense paid trips involved, including overseas.

Here is the brief blurb about that and the criteria that selection is based upon:

Tisch Scholarships...

University Scholars Program
These scholarships are awarded to entering freshmen. Students are considered for the program based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and an artistic review. This select group of students attend special events and travel internationally. The program particularly focuses on helping students explore the vast art and cultural resources of New York City.

Then there are actual Merit Aid Scholarships (for tuition, etc). That is what I meant by the Trustee Scholarship in my earlier post, which is a scholarship my daughter won and receives all four years. This is separate from Tisch University Scholars. Here is the criteria on the website:

Trustees Scholarships
Trustees Scholarships are awarded to entering freshmen and transfer students of exceptional promise.

About FA in general at NYU:

Financial Assistance
Average financial aid package (incoming freshman)
$20,095
Annual amount NYU funded financial aid
$117.5 Million
Number of merit scholarships awarded
390
Range of merit scholarship awards
$1,000 - $25,000

Hope this addresses your question.

WOW~Soozie~Thank you for your amazing information and suggestion. It really helps~

About the Scholarships in NYU,I think every different department has different way to get(or win) that(those)! I got scholarships for my all(almost all...)tuition fee for rest of years, but it just simply based on how I worked during my first year. I was not in top ten in my class.Maybe I was the lucky one!But I really believe if you study very hard...you would get some of them.

Talking about 2 years program. It seems everyone suggested "Circle in the Square Theater School". Is that really good? Soozie, how do you think this one??Thank you!!!and thanks again for your posted!!!

I think Circle in the Square Theater School is very good at what it does as a two year training program. It also is one of the few that offers musical theater. They have been around a long while and have a good track record. It so happens that my daughter's private voice and acting teachers (before college) are on the faculty of CITS, though we live very far from NYC in another state. Both these teachers commute from their homes in our state to NYC midweek. They are both excellent and prepared my daughter well for college BFA admissions, as well.

When you ask how good a school is, however, that is a very vague question and not specific to what you are looking for. A "good" school is one that fits your personal college criteria which may be different preferences than the next student. Also, a two year certificate program is completely different than a college BA or BFA degree. However, a two year conservatory training program may fit the needs, interests, and desires for certain students and in that vein, CITS is a good program to explore further.
