Nancy LaMott sings a song by David Zippel and Jonathan Sheffer from "Going Hollywood," a wonderful musical version of Kaufman and Hart's "Once in a Lifetime," soon to star Christine Ebersole, Peter Evans, Harvey Evans and Dolores Gray, in an ill-fated pre-Broadway workshop at the Michael Bennett Studios, directed by the comic genius Peter Mark Schifter.

Nancy LaMott owns the song but Christine Ebersole's version in the production was equally breathtaking.

I was "someone in a tree" again, working in a minor role on the production staff, surrounded by so much talent I was convinced we were all destined for greatness.

Little did I know, sitting in Don't Tell Mama, sipping a Maker's Mark Manhattan, listening to Nancy LaMott sing this great song, that all too soon the workshop would fail, Peter Evans and Peter Mark Schifter would be lost too young to the plague, and Nancy herself would succumb too young to uterine cancer.

Hopes dashed, dreams destroyed, life goes on. Another Mister Right Left. 1986.

This thread makes me both incredibly happy and terribly sad.

I remember the first time I heard a Nancy cd. It was the one with We Can Be Kind and it brought up a well of emotion that I still remember.

Well, we should all have cocktails and watch the DVD! Get sad and happy at the same time and celebrate Nancy's astonishing talent.
