During the Katrina disaster Bar (rhymes with "bunt") Bush famously announced that the displaced survivors on cots in the Houston Astrodome "were underprivileged anyway, so this is working out very well for them."
According to a blurb on Huffington Post, "Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi said today she hopes US aid to the country would help it achieve a 'new, fresh start,' while acknowledging that it was a "very sad time":
"From my own experience with earthquakes, being from San Francisco, I think that this can be an opportunity for a real boom economy in Haiti."
Um. This is right up there with Palin explaining to the black guy how Todd has to deal with racism all the time.
Yes Nancy, Haiti is going to be just fine

But once all the unpleasantness is paved over, new resorts can mean economic boom time for American entrepreneurs!

Yeah, every generation gets the Bar Bush it deserves.
Must be the botox

Wow that's ridiculous. She should have said something like "Poor people of Haiti! I urge Americans to give a little so we can rebuild their shacks and let them get back to their subsistence way of life where the vast majority of them live on much less than a dollar a day. Don't worry conservatives- we aren't going to help them build ANYTHING better than what they had before the quake!"
Oops
That was a classic .

Bravo, Joe. The satirical point you make by creating a false dichotomy between two statements that are inappropriate is a good one! Of course, what you wrote is not the only other option to the gaffe Pelosi made, but that's the profound subtlety of your dig. It's almost Twainian in its genius. (And yes, I mean Shania.)
Howzabout a few days pass after the whole mass graves issue is dealt with before anybody chimes in about economic boom times?
What bothers me even more is even comparing the devastation in Haiti to the damage in SF in 1989. It is just a stupid, insensitive, and unbelievably bone-headed thing to say.

She may have been referring to 1906. Who knows what that botox is covering up? Or maybe she revealed her real thoughts about how she'll profit when the big one finally hits the Bay Area.
Well, if she experienced the 1906 quake, then girl is looking good.

Well then I guess I don't get it. What exactly are we outraged about?

Clearly. I personally me myself as the originator of this thread indicated no "outrage" but rather an entirely apt in my own personal opinion comparison between the similarly callous comments uttered in response to natural disasters by Mr. Bar Bush and Mrs. Nancy Pelosi.
And there I was accidentally giving you credit for satire.
