"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Of all the great films currently in theatres, those should be at the bottom of the list to see.

So, of course, they make the most money.

You won't be missing much, jay. I was dragged to that last week. Incidentally, on Wednesday I'm being drugged to ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS (shut up, taz).

Actually we saw Sweeney Todd at Randolph Cinema (suburb of Boston) my first time there- wow ...the seats are sooo comfortable....soo spacious...

If only Broadway theaters' seats were that comfortable!

Actually I love Sweeney Todd.. I just dont like as to why they dont have the Ballad of Sweeney Todd as a sung part....that Anthony guy looks like Sandra Bullock and the beginning is sooo computerized..but I love the production design...very dark...very Tim Burton... love it !!!!

Does anyone felt that "By the Sea" seems out of place with all the flow of production design which is dark...but I guess that's Ms Lovett's imagination...the switch was soo abrupt .. its like opening all lights in a pitch dark room..

Lots of kids there, too. When I saw SWEENEY last Friday, there was like a whole stampede of them going into that theater.

jay, I don't like how a lot of the numbers were staged, particularly "The Worst Pies In London" and "A Little Priest."

I think Tim Burton is not a big fan of big Broadway production number...like ensemble...

he got rid of some of the ensemble part of Pirelli Miracle Elixir....which probabbly he wants to make it dark ..not over the top belting ....

I kinda like it... I can see what is he trying to accomplish....

I just wish they ended it differently.... like older toby in the asylum..but I guess he does not wanna do that....but again he got rid of that in the beggining too...Ballad of Sweeney Todd...btw- i love that song and I was disapointed not to hear it sung...

I waited till the end END credit..if they will sing it.. re: National Treasure or Alvin & the Chipmunk?

The first National Treasure was fun and entertaining. The second one was absolutely and completely implausible and ridiculous.
