I am not a woman, but I hate those tours... I would much rather travel alone or with friends...

If you have to go on a budget, I would recommend going east... I live in Prague and most people are still surprised by how cheap it is, despite the fact the prices have gone up. You can travel using airbnb.com. I am an airbnb host and the prices are more similar to a hostel, but instead you get a private room, plus a local who can give you tips on what to do and where to go.

I see that your trip is already planned, but this could be useful for your next trip or anyone else who is thinking of doing a trip like this.

Did you book the trip via a tour site or through groupon or something similar? Curious cause I am taking the same exact trip (cities and length) next month as well.

That sounds like a fabulous trip, Millie. I went with my husband's family on a nearly identical trip back in the 90's. I'll never forget it. If you love art and history, you'll love Florence but I just couldn't get over the Venice lifestyle. So unique and surreal. Definitely my favorite city of the trip.
