I have a computer at work that is occasionally used by co-workers. It has internet access. I'm operating on Windows XP. How can I protect my computer from any frivolous downloads? For example: messenger, file sharing, etc. etc. I just don't want my system clogged up with stupid junk. Is there a way to protect my computer by requiring a password or such? ANy advice appreciated. I don't have the option of shutting it down. Other folks use it for (supposed) legitimate reasons when I'm not at hand.

I have no idea if this is what you would want/how I even ended up w/ it on my computer to begin w/, but I also have XP and when rebooting it after it froze up (burning a CD) a week or so ago, it came up offering some Windows Protection thing (I honestly don't know what it was called or why it came up) but it seriously blocked out everything! It ended up being a huge hassle for me, and I ended up backing my computer up to the day before the computer crashed to get rid of it, but (whatever it was) it weeded out/blocked everything. Wish I could help you out more, but I'm not the most computer savvy person in the world (SHOCK!)

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)
